Pig Roast? YOUR Opinions, please!

When we were on our Church's Social Committee we organized a Pig Roast. The caterers set up everything and we just asked people to contribute sides and dessert. Let me just tell you that I had a hard time eating that BBQ. Seeing the Pig rotating with that apple in its mouth and then eating it.....couldn't handle it. Still makes me shutter just thinking about it and that was several years ago! But everyone else enjoyed it!!!!

Well, I'm probably not going to be of much help even though we've had many pig roasts here on our farm. But this was back when we raised our own pigs so we didn't have to shell out any cash for the pig, and my DH and his Dad and brother-in-law made our roaster. My in-laws used to host a Jayco (camper) club weekend every summer and we had 30-40 campers parked in our yards (my in-laws lived right next door to us) and on my FIL's runway. We always provided the pig, tables and chairs, plates, cutlery, napkins, cups and drinks (iced tea, punch, coffee) and then everyone else brought food as well so it was basically a big pot luck. There was always a ton of food, and we never offered any other meat. If someone didn't like pork (and I can't remember anyone turning down roast pig ) they just ate all of the other foods that were brought. The pig roasts always went over very well, but I can understand you re-thinking it because of the cost in buying the pig and renting the roaster.

I am going to be the dissenting voice. I do not like pig roasts. Seeing the whole roasted pig disgusts me. I don't want to see it still looking like a pig. (admittedly, I prefer to think of my meat as coming from the grocery store in nice cellophane packages.)

If you invited me to your pig roast, I would not expect you to provide another meat option... But I'd rather go to a barbecue!

I totally agree with you! They make me sick and I have to make sure I don't look at them. I've been to a couple and I really don't like them. Ok, I should probably admit that I'm a vegetarian, so I may not have the most objective opinion.

My husband LOVES them.
