PIF Extension - DCL Unwilling to help

I don't know anybody (except my husband who's absolutely obsessed with finances) that has a 6 months emergency fund. I know it's recommended but a lot people don't have that and basically live from paycheck to paycheck and owe a certain amount to their credit line/card.
Same with us we make good money, but money in money out.. lol.. we have zero debt though... house paid off. any extra cash gets added to our retirement funds.. if needed be we could take out if all heck were to break lose..

if let's say the fridge breaks that amount we have in cash. or a car repair.. I would say we could cover a month or two with any cash savings.... but six months of pay put to the side we do not have.

Iknow many too many, living pay check to pay check with debt. and you would not think it.

I'm actually enjoying the varying viewpoints on this thread. popcorn:: I'm also excited to see that the DIS has a popcorn eating emoji.

The OP has made his viewpoint clear. I disagree with it. I'm glad that Disney stood their ground.

If you can't pay, that's fine... cancel the trip. Disney should not be in the position of deciding who's reason for not paying is more or less valid than that of someone else's. What a slippery slope.

Meanwhile, :offtopic:,
My examples are very personal but... If you had told me two months ago that we would pay 2300$ in vet bills for our family cat... (that we had to say goodbye to in the end!) ...

I'm very sorry for the loss of your loved one. I've BTDT on the $$$$ shelled out for a pet. Our outcome was different, and I now have a $3000 kitty walking around here 7 years later.

I would agree with this, with the following change:
"Disney decided not be in the position of deciding who's reason for not paying is more or less valid than that of someone else's."

They are within their rights to put themselves in that position, if they wanted to, for business and/or customer satisfaction reasons. Their choice, either way.

Thanks for your kind words. Before we found out she was terminally ill we had already spent quite an amount and had nicknamed her "Deluxe Cat". LOL

I'm so happy your cat could be saved. 3000$ is not that bad when you get 7 more years together.

I agree that it is a bad business decision on Disney's part. Right before PIF- at this point they will be selling the slot at a discount. Either to a CM or TA or military or Florida resident or some other discount bracket. They have someone willing to pay full price but just needs 2 more weeks. What do they have to lose? If the customer fails to make the payment, they are past PIF and will suffer significant fees. From a purely financial standpoint, I do not see how Disney wins by not working with this customer. It's silly on their part.

It's incredibly naive to think that DCL hasn't modeled this extensively. They know the financial implications of the different options they have. They aren't guessing.

Perhaps - but it would be extremely foolish to think Disney don’t make mistakes

Not to change topics, and certainly not to the same scale - but remember 2017 when Bob Iger stupidly quit Trumps advisory team? In doing so, alienating him and his company from the Trump administration and more importantly the many Trump supporters in the USA & wider international community (and let’s face it - the right wing is the side of town that keeps Disney in business)

Not to mention the absolute train wreck of a decision over the new Anaheim disneyland hotel & disassembly of downtown Disney prior to due diligence

Disney. Make. Mistakes.

Some extremely small (like this topic), some medium size (like the way they’ve allowed wdw to become overrun with ECV’s) and some much bigger - but they do make mistakes and if some people stop drinking the kool-aid for just one minute they’ll see the many mistakes Disney make

All I’m saying - is we all have a different views in life - that’s OK (Hey, Obama had to find his way in to the White House somehow) - but what’s not OK is you guys drawing all sorts of conclusions that don’t exist, and saying I’m “wrong” to even ask a question and even more wrong to criticise The Mouse

Folks on other cruise forums are much more level headed and don’t drink the Disney kool-aid, as a consequence they absolutely see Disney’s flaws and are happy to say that sometimes they make arrogant decisions when not in the position to do so (as has been mentioned, the current lineup of cruises has plenty of vacancies)
