Do you think a certain type of person gets tattoos or piercings(other than the normal ear ones)?

I have both. And I was just wondering if you think people's opinions of me change if they find out.:confused3

I mean, I'm a 32yo mom with two kids. Does it make me a bad example for my kids?

I KNOW my opinion of you changed, Kelly.

I didn't say it changed for the worse, however... :woohoo:

I don't think there is a "type" that is more likely to have tattoos or piercings. My mom shocked me at her surprise 61st bday party last year when she let me know she was going to be getting a tattoo! This is a gramma of 12, ultra conservative born again Christian. Then the second shocker came when my sister and her 17 yr old daughter showed us their matching very lower back tattoos.
I do think there are people who judge those with tattoos or body piercings. Personally, I could care less because who am I to judge.

Yep, I think there are people who do look differently at you once they know you have tattoos and certain piercings (other than the "normal" ones).

I have a tattoo on one ankle. Got it a little over a year ago. Going next month to get my next one ;) Can't wait.
DD is going with me. She will be getting her first one.

I am almost 49 by the way :rotfl:

I don't think it's a bad influence on your kids- I actually think the opposite. You're showing them to break stereotypes and see past physical things like piercings and tattoos.

I live in an ultra-conservative suburb, and I don't know very many people. People were normally friendly, except when I had my lip pierced. I would notice people pull their kids in tighter and stare at me. I mean please, I'm a 21 year old college student at the grocery store, I'm not going to mug you!

It's sad. But some people still do see it as something the 'bad people' will do. I used to, and still do get asked (because of the plugs in my ears) why I would want to do that to myself? My only explanation is, why do you wear diamond earrings? Because you like them, and you like how you look in them. Same for me.

I wanted to add: I hope to be a mom like you one day! I love when I see eclectic parents.

Thank God my tattoos (for now) are hidden. People would probably expect me the slash their tires! :rotfl:

:lmao: I can soooo see me and my DD doing that when she's older.

I do think we're judged by our outward appearance and I do think that there is a stigma to tattoos and non-ear piercings.

I have a small tattoo on my inner ankle, and I have to keep it covered when I'm working. I've run into clients at the grocery store before and while I'm talking to them, I'll see them take quick glances at it. I'm sure they're surprised to see it.

I had my belly button pierced when it was the big thing to do too. The belly button piercing is long gone. If only I could say the same thing about the stupid tattoo. :headache:

surprised, yes
changed, no
this is just about you, mind you!

Well, my kids know about the tattoo. Not about the piercings.

And I agree, some people act really strange around people with the different piercings and tattoos. It's just body art.:confused3

I think many people have a preconcieved notion of what a person that has tats/peircings are like. It is good to suprise people though. Makes them think about their assumptions. I have a small tatoo on my shoulder I got when I was a kid. Miles away from who I am today.:goodvibes

I personally have issues today with people getting tattoo's I have many, and I have had them for over 20 years. It bugs me that people these days get them as a Fashion statement. When for years people frowned apon what I had, due to the fact of me being a biker and hanging with Hells Angels. I do not like the "posers" as we call them.

and it is something that still bugs me today! I do not have them, "because everyone else does" and I am in my 40's. I got them when they were Illegal to get them where I live, we had to host tattoo parties in order to get them.

Aahh, the good ole days!!!

Some old timey people do but most people are fine with it now. I am looking for the perfect thing for my 7th tattoo. Only two of them are visable to everyone but I love them.

In Albuquerque a few weeks ago my sis-in-law and I were in a shop looking for some ideas and my 16 year old son asked if he could have one. Of course I said SURE! DH vetoed it really quick though. I just totally believe in self expression!

nah - there's no type - me, i'm 50 and have no piercings or tattoos - both my mother and sister each have earrings going up the sides of both ears (total: 8 earrings each!) - not for me....

gosh, i wonder what everyone thinks about me....:lmao: :confused3 :lmao:
I will try and keep my mouth shut and not say anything...:cool2:

I think it depends on the extreme of the piercing/tatt. If a person has their tongue pierced, or eyebrow, or lip, it is all I can do to look at them. I don't like "in yer face" anything, and some facial piercings scream that to me. It's definitely my own problem, shouldn't stop anyone from doing what they want to themselves, but if I were a potential employer, I think this would be a huge consideration.

I have heard the word now for piercings/tattoos is body "modification"..reminds me fixing up a car.

BTW, I have a tat on my outer ankle which no one ever notices..and cartilidge piercing in one of my ears..my hair covers it when I am in certain situations..like job interviews.

That's my thought. What works for me, might not work for others. I don't have my ears pierced. That seems to amuse people. :rotfl2:

oh.....what have you done?;)
