Hey Brenda :wave2:

It was so great meeting up with you for some fishies! And I totally agree with you on the fish...they were about half the size they were in 2007 AND they were also really cheap with the fries! We got 2 orders to share between the three of us and we easily could have had three! It sure was yummy though :goodvibes

Kira really did take a liking to her aunt Bendy! She was the one who asked me if she could go and hug you! :lovestruc

And she was totally thrilled to see you the next day too!

For your readers...here's Kira and Bendy's reunion the next day...

She asked us the next day if we were going to get some more fishies with "her friends" :rotfl2:

And I was glad you brought some friends to our mini-meet, two of the nicest people around :thumbsup2 I wish we could have toured with you afterwards but the princess was in need of a ride :rolleyes1

Looks like you had a fabulous evening though!

Can't wait to hear about your Vegas food adventures. I will be going on a girls-only trip in December so your trippie will tide me over until I get to go ;)

That pic of you and Kira is priceless...she is just a cutie pie and you look great too!

The fish is depressing..we ate there in 07 too and loved the fish we got, it was 2 huge pieces and nice and battered and delish...how sad they decided to go and change things....

Now I want to go to our local pub for some REAL fish and chips! No cooking for me tonight...can I blame it on your review or my laziness?? :lmao:

Sledge is a dirty little monkey! :rotfl2: Oh to have such a photographic display of the day a great friendship starting?! How lucky are we??? Especially since none of us can remember first hand everything thanks to the DITCH! :lmao:
Really it was a wonderful day!
I wish we had a snausage now!

Sledge ... you sick leetle monkey! :rotfl2: It was a terrific day and between your pictures, our pictures, and pictures from others we are lucky indeed! I wouldn't mind one of those snausages right now, either!

Just caught up! I am a Tequila girl so the Ditch is the place my sis will have to pull me away from, and the snackies look yummy also. I have just had so much fun with you while reading and catching up.
I am so lucky when my sis and i go alone to WDW because we always have many days like this. We will definately have to try and hang out with some peeps this time. :woohoo:

Hello there! If you like tequila then the Ditch is the place for you! Thanks for reading - I hope you and your sister have as much fun on your next visit as we did!

Hi Cass! I'm so glad you were able to wait for us to show up ... late ... :headache:; we had a terrific time with you guys. And thank you for posting those pictures ... I love them!

Next time we will have to go to Beaches and Cream for some dessert! :thumbsup2

And there will be food o'plenty while we're in Vegas ... you will be reading stories and looking at pictures all summer long, my friend!

Great update as always and I love the pics that Cass posted :thumbsup2

Thanks Chelle! :goodvibes

Thanks Nicki - she was a little doll! And I'd give anything for some decent fish and chips but around here Long John Silver's is about the only option.

Tuesday, October 20th - After Spending Ten Hours in Epcot How Can You Possibly be Hungry???

It happens when I drink too much to think clearly but not enough to pass out ... I get hungry ... really really hungry. So once Illuminations was over we made our way slowly through the World Showcase to the International Gateway only to have yours truly announce that she was hungry. The problem is that at 9:30 in the evening your choices are a little thin on the ground ... it came down to Beaches and Cream and the ESPN Club and since burgers sounded good to everyone (at least I think they sounded good to everyone) we found ourselves at the door asking for a table. Depsite the fact that there was a playoff game in progress (Angels v. Skankees) we were seated right away.

I sure wish I could tell you who won but it really wasn't that important to us. However, as Cardinals fans we automatically root for whichever team is playing New York ... we have a chip on our collective Stinktown shoulder about the lack of respect given to our storied franchise which is the second winningest in MLB. And perhaps the most whiniest! :lmao:

Enough about that. Can I just say that after six years I still miss ESPN's tuna pita? Best. Sandwich. Evah. And they got rid of it to make room for more "bar-style" food. Hey brainiacs ... you can make a lot of ladies who come to ESPN Club for the men in their lives happy by offering a healthy, tasty, alternative to sliders, chicken wings, and five-alarm chili. You used to ... I know because I ordered the tuna pita with fresh fruit every freaking time we ate at ESPN Club - and if a certain baseball team was in the playoffs that could be upwards of four times on one trip. And that sandwich sure tasted good with Killians. :rolleyes1

So, when faced with no tuna (again) I decided to stick with the safe choice and ordered a bacon cheeseburger with fries. And lots and lots of water. In fact, we'd all had our fill of booze by this point and were sucking down water like it was fine champagne.

The "burger"
429.jpg

Now, let me get back on my critical soap-box. Look at that picture. Do you notice the beef patty? Does it look familiar to you? It looks a lot like the pre-formed patty we were served the week before at Beaches and Cream. It also looks like many pictures of burgers I've recently seen here on the DIS from places like the Plaza and the Electric Umbrella, to name a few. The menu actually described this as an Angus Chuck Slider Burger. I don't think so.

I understand why places like B&C and the Electric Umbrella and even the Plaza use pre-formed burgers - they are working in small spaces with serious time and storage constraints - I may not like the final result but I get it. However, a restaurant that supposedly prepares food to order has no excuse for doing this. And shame on them for not modifying their menu because that burger was no more angus chuck than I am.

In retrospect I should have ordered a naked hot dog. :rotfl2:

Jay ordered the Upper Deck Hot Roast Beef and Cheese. No, wait ... we're pretty sure now this is a pulled pork sandwich. Well, regardless, in his words, Jay said this was "OK; what do you want for a late night snack?"

Some kind of sandwedge
430.jpg

The fries were very tasty and I know in my case that's what I ended up eating the most of because the burger was greasy and slimy and just not good.

Here's a sad first ... we have to roll out the Jay Sherman for the ESPN Club, a place that was the scene of many a happy and tipsy playoff baseball memory. For eliminating the tuna pita, for pure uninspired mediocrity, for stating that my burger was angus chuck when I suspect it may have been flatmeat ...

What a fun afternoon and evening in Epcot!:cool1: Love your trip around the World Showcase with great food and drink selections.:thumbsup2 It's so great that you get to meet up with so many DisFriends on your trips Brenda. Looks like a very enjoyable day and night.;)

We used to love ESPN's burgers and I, too, was so disappointed last month when I got "that thing". I need to find me a new burger joint in "the world".:rolleyes1

It's a crying shame that they have nixed the tuna, boo hissssss.:sad2:

Staff members at ESPN Club have told me to send letters requesting its return, but obviously the tuna-starved ravings of a midwestern dork aren't enough. :rotfl2: I have never missed a sandwich so much ... on another note Jay even thinks their menu has deteriorated over the years and he's not too crazy about it anymore either.

Hi Linda! We did have a wonerful day ... I can't remember the last time Jay and I spent that many consecutive hours in a theme park - we always take a break but I guess we were having too much fun to remember that! :thumbsup2

Sorry to hear that yours wasn't any better, Kat. I was hoping that mine might have been from an off night ... apparently not.

Wednesday, October 21st - A Full Day of Food & Wine Snacking!

The plan, once we'd crawled out of bed was to hook up with X&Y and visit MGM before lunching at the Brown Derby and then escaping back to Epcot for a couple of late afternoon deminars. It was a good plan ... well thought out, logical, no WDW transportation required ... too bad half of the family had gone to MGM the day before and now wanted to visit Epcot instead. But they didn't want to visit with us because they weren't interested in food. :scared1::scared1::scared1:

To be fair they'd never been to WDW together before and wanted a chance to ride the attractions and have fun on their own. We understand; Jay and I were the same way fifteen ... did I just say fifteen??? ... years before on our first visit together. So we told them to scamper off and have fun ... we'd be eating our way around the World Showcase in case they were interested in joining up later in the day. Otherwise we'd meet them in time to get to Raglan Road for our dinner reservation that night.

Open up ... we're hungry!!!
431.jpg

We started the day with a stop at the Thailand booth where we shared a plate of Green Papaya Salad with Shrimpies. This was interesting ... I think the shrimp were a little overcooked but they had nice flavor. There was also too much excess liquid ... a kind of vinegar-based, very thin dressing.

A colorful start to the day.
432.jpg

From Thailand we next paid a visit to Australia, which I have been disappointed with in recent years. Many people spoke to us lovingly of the grilled lamb chop as well as the seared barramundi so we decided to flip a coin and ordered the Seared Barramundi with Blistered Cherry Tomatoes, Arugula, and Lemon Oil. And because I was curious about it, we also ordered a piece of Lamington.

The barramundi, which I'd certainly never tried before, was well cooked and had a mild flavor. The problem with this dish as far as we were concerned was the lemon oil, which was so liberally applied that I thought the fish might have been dusted with pledge before they served it to us.

Barramundi
437.jpg

As for the Lamington ... what a terrible, horrid surprise. Had I known it was going to be sprouting coconut like a hairy, miniature rubix cube I never would have ordered it. It's too bad that Australia had to go and ruin such a tasty, calorie-laden little block, because the cake itself was moist and soft and the chocolate frosting was yummy. But bleh, coconut ... no thank you very much.

Coconut horrors ...
438.jpg

439.jpg

Our wanderings eventually found us in Italy, where we decided to try the Cannelloni, the Polpettini, and a Moretti beer. We hit pay dirt in Italy! While they weren't offering anything overly exotic, the veal meatballs (meat clot!) swimming in tomato sauce were tasty and the cannelloni was fantastic - one of our favorites from the festival. The serving portion was generous and no matter how many times we visited their booth the folks in Italy were serving an awesome, cheesy, delicious cannelloni. It was so good ... I really do wish we were eating it right now.

Little bunny foo foo choked on a meat clot!
440.jpg

Beautiful, glorious cannelloni
441.jpg

Ahhhh, first beer of the day!
442.jpg

New Orleans was our next stop, where we ... OK, where Jay ... ordered the Spicy Cajun Crawfish and Veggie Stew and the Chicken and Andouille Gumbo. The hubba liked these just fine - they were a little too spicy for my taste and I gave up after a bite of each.

Gumbo
445.jpg

Crawfish & Veggie Stew
446.jpg

The Brewer's Collection was calling our name ... our friend Webray had told us to come back and try the sausage, officially called the Landjaeger. This was more like a summer sausage, a little greasier and saltier but oh-so-good when washed down with tasty but unknown beer.

Snausage!
448.jpg

Second Beer!
449.jpg

We stopped in England to poke around and look at the naughty things they sell in the tea shoppe!! :lmao:

Uncle Joe has no shame ...
444.jpg

Pucker up!
443.jpg

Since we were so close we decided to try Ireland's cheese plate which included an Aged Irish Cheddar, Dubliner, and Ivernia cheese with brown bread and apple chutney. I never thought I'd say this about a cheese selection but ... ICK! The bread was heavy and hard as a rock - stale for sure - and all three cheeses were hard as well. It's not a very good cheese sampler that can't give you a semi-soft or soft cheese with the firm ones. We thought they were all kind of tasteless, too. So so sad. :sad2:

Worst. Cheese. Plate. Ever.
450.jpg

The final sample of the day was from America Town where we purchased the over-priced lobster roll - something we can't get in Stinktown - along with a Sam Adams Black Lager. Having no real basis for comparison, and not being a big lobster fan, I thought this was pretty good, if a little too creamy for my taste. Jay and I always share this - he loves lobster so even at the silly $7 price tag we go ahead and order it at least once so he can enjoy it - and it tastes great with a cold beer!

Third Beer!!!
452.jpg

As I previously mentioned, we'd had a lunch ADR for Brown Derby that we'd canceled after discussing the day with X&Y. But as the day wore on, Jay and I decided that we needed some relaxation at the pool followed by a nice long nap. So we ditched two back-to-back deminars that we'd paid in advance for ... D'OH! Meh, it was only $20 total and lemme tell you - that was a fabulous nap! :goodvibes

Next up ... dinner at Raglan Road and an unexpected nightcap. Thanks for reading!

I had the same complaint about the Irish cheese plate - it wasn't a proper cheese selection! They were are semi-hard....where's the variety? I liked the cheeses...they just were almost the same.
I thought that bread was disgusting too - but my grandma liked it. :confused3

Wednesday, October 21st - A Full Day of Food & Wine Snacking!
But they didn't want to visit with us because they weren't interested in food. :scared1::scared1::scared1:
QUOTE]

:confused::faint:

The horrors! I heard a collective gasp at this one from all the crazed DIS food fanatics.

Sometime you'll have to come to New England so Jay can have a nice, fresh full-sized lobster roll. (or lobstah roll as we say around here):thumbsup2

You and the mint balls....you kill me woman!:rotfl2:

We completely skipped the offerings at Italy!!!!!!:confused3 Must have been in a "ditch daze".;)

I'm gonna be singing Little Bunny Foo Foo all day long now :upsidedow

That lobster roll looked awfully small, any chance it was just the angle the pic was taken?

I'm really hungry now, off to have a yummy bowl of raisin bran

The canneloni and barramundi look great, too bad they covered the fish in Pledge.

The sausage looks a little greasy, so I'm glad it tasted good! Was it cold like summer sausage? At least it is less obscene than that "other" sausage.

Can't believe X&Y weren't interested in food!

Are you really related to these people? Not interested in food?? :confused3

Ok, I'll give the crazy kids a free pass for wanting to get the most fun they can possibly squeeze into a day at the park as amateurs.

432.jpg

I thought this was pretty good, but yes, it did have liquid excess. I want my liquid excess to arrive in the form of Ditch goodness, but we can't have everything.

Barramundi
437.jpg

My barramundi wasn't Pledgerized for my protection. I could barely tell there was lemon involved when I tried it.

439.jpg

Is this a mushroom and olive abhorrence? Or a Crohn thing? I will take the coconut from you if the former OR the latter. I did not try this item and regret it now.

Oh, I saw one breadstick trying to pick up another breadstick in the saucy hot tub. Rrrrrrawr. But I can see how you might think Foo Foo drowned in it.

Beautiful, glorious cannelloni
441.jpg

That looks like a lot of food. Italy has the distinction of being the kiosk I skip every year without fail. It's become a habit every time now. I skipped it because they always had ziti and pizza, two of the most boring things they can offer.

Crawfish & Veggie Stew
446.jpg

I still haven't tried the gumbo, but this is the second year in a row I've had the crawfish thing, and I like it. I did not like that they skimped out on the teensy Tabasco bottles for those who like it spicier. Not that I minded for myself, I was annoyed by the principle of it.

The Brewer's Collection was calling our name ... our friend Webray had told us to come back and try the sausage, officially called the Landjaeger. This was more like a summer sausage, a little greasier and saltier but oh-so-good when washed down with tasty but unknown beer.

Snausage!
448.jpg

Not as suggestive as the German sausage, but still impressive.

We stopped in England to poke around and look at the naughty things they sell in the tea shoppe!! :lmao:

Uncle Joe has no shame ...
444.jpg

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!! :lmao:
I know you know my reaction was laughing to the point of tears in my eyes! That Uncle Joe looks like Uncle Moneybags from the Monopoly game just a little bit, doesn't he? I could not stop laughing when I saw this photo!

Pucker up!
443.jpg

Darn, where's that landjaeger when you need it? It would have told a better story! :rotfl2:

Since we were so close we decided to try Ireland's cheese plate which included an Aged Irish Cheddar, Dubliner, and Ivernia cheese with brown bread and apple chutney. Looks like they had leftovers of last year's Irish cheese plate and sold it to you.

Third Beer!!!
452.jpg

And here's the other food item I skip year after year. I can't bring myself to pay $7 for the lobster roll. Maybe one year I'll cave in and try it. But the beer is tall, dark and handsome. Woohoo!

As I previously mentioned, we'd had a lunch ADR for Brown Derby that we'd canceled after discussing the day with X&Y. You gotta nap when you gotta nap! I cannot blame you because I enjoy naps, too. I don't take naps as Disney as much as I do at home. Bummer that you missed two deminars.
