There was also some kind of bizarre jelly paired with this ... you can just see it on the side of the sausage underneath the peppers ... but I'm damned if I know what it's actually supposed to be. It almost looks like jellied fish eggs, but surely that can't be right!

It was onions! and damn it was cold. The weather, not the onions. Well, the onions too.

Jay will probably actually like the calamari with sweet/spicy sauce at Red Square which I recommended before. I'll be glad to split a plate with him in May.

waiting for your take on V&A. Mine was about the food. Chelsi's was about...us. Lori's was about both. waiting for next...

Dh got the spicy chicken and polenta at Le Cellier once and it was deee-licious! But very hot and spicy. Would you believe this is where Olivia is asking for her birthday dinner? (3pm is all I could get :headache:) I guess she's growing up.

This looked like an excellent snacking day even if it was Snuggie weather!

mmm mmmm good! I can't believe how much snacking we missed out on in october. Darn the disneymoon being on the tail end of our honeymoon and my nasty cold i had...that mealie"worm" soup would hit the spot for me right now..tis chilly out there!
Great snacking update!

Yum... Do you think the F&W will still be here in 10 years? LOL... That's when my youngest goes off to college and we can actually attend. Maybe one year I'll have to attend without dh and let him take care of things at home. LOL...

It better be around in another 10 years ... our DVC membership is good until we hit our late 70s! :lmao:

This year will their 15th ... that's promising, don't you think? And myabe you should sneak off for a long weekend in October ... you've earned it!

All that warm yummy goodness sounds perfect for a freezing cold day like today.

Very happy to hear that you woke up feeling well. Can't wait to hear about the chocolate :cloud9:

Hiya Chelle! I was thinking the same thing when I posted it ... all that food would have been terrific today. And the chocolate seminar was really good and a lot of fun - we got to share a table with Robin and Jeanne and her hubby. :thumbsup2

Yeah I tend to not Dis when we are preparing for or on a trip, but I'm alive and well. :thumbsup2 The jet set life is just not for me...4 trips and 32 days at Disney since October. I don't know what I was thinking. We did have a great Christmas and New Years though and I'm sure we'll be crazy enough to do it again.

That's a ton of planning ... I don't blame you one bit for DISappearing. ;)

Sometimes those places include the moon, by way of my foot..but most days we'll keep him. ;)

Well he's a cutie and we were really impressed by his culinary knowledge. I swear I thought he was in his late teens ... D'OH!

As it should have been!

We didn't like that cold blast either that one weekend, but did the same with trying all the hot stuff we'd otherwise skip on the sweltering days. I can't do the lobster, but the rest of the gang raved about it. We really liked the spicy chicken sausage. The quality of the polenta seemed to vary greatly from day to day, sometimes hour to hour. Its a shame you can't partake in more of the hot and spicy stuff. I guess there isn't much in the way of Crohn's medications to allow that, huh? Well, no matter...sounds like you had a great time and I'm looking forward to hearing more. :goodvibes

I heard that about the polenta as well ... it probably depended on who was doing the cooking. And the only good thing about the cold is that it allowed us to try the soups and other heavy things we would skip on a normal weather day.

No drugs to keep the goblin at bay when hot and spicy is on the menu so I just take a nibble and let the hubby have the rest. That way everyone is happy. And since I've never really cared much for hot and spicy it's not like I'm sacrificing something I love. It's all good! :thumbsup2

The chicken sausage looked divine B! But, I think I would've liked it better without the jelly/jam too. :confused3

As I sit here eating my falafel sandwich, I see it doesn't look anything like yours. Where the heck did the falafel go?? Mine has 3 yummy falafel balls in it and I see only the lettuce in your's.

Next time you hit up Southeastern WI, I'll show you some REAL falafel baby!!! YUMMY!!!!!!:goodvibes

BTW...that cake looked like it was to die for too.

Hiya Goose! I don't remember eating the jellied stuff at all ... I know I pretty much stuck with the polenta. As for the falafel ... it was piled up way down in the bottom of the pita. I wasn't impressed ... tasteless crunch is wasted on me.

And the cake was awesome! Tasted wonderful!!!

Ahhhhhhh.....two of our faves at this years F&W were the Lobster & Scallop pie and the Beef tenderloin w/sweet potato & mango. They were both excellent!

Hy Kat! These were two of our favorites this year too!

Just read it all and i am all caught up. Your food reviews are top notch. My sister and i are going back to F&W this year! Can't wait. popcorn::

Thanks very much for reading - glad you've enjoyed our adventures so far. Less than 10 months until F&W 2010!!

yummy update, Brenda!

Thanks Elin! That fisherman's pie sure would have tasted good today.

Wonderful reviews as ever (by god, I swore this year I would leave a comment, and at last I did :thumbsup2) Almost hate that the F&W is just once a year just because I miss laughing through your reviews (that would be with you, not at you).

BTW: if you hadn't told us it was cold, I could have guessed just by the gooseflesh on the poor legs in the Mealie soup pic. Brrrr! :scared1:

Thank you very much for reading and posting and laughing. :goodvibes And you can laugh at me any time you want ... I'm sure I do and say enough dumb things that it's warranted.

Now I've gotta go back and look at that picture ... I had no idea the goosebumps were showing! :rotfl2:

Great updates! The kids and I love, love, loved that cake! It was too cute. We each want one with our favorite character on top.

Thanks so much! And I loved the cake ... it was such fun. Maybe you could compromise and get one cake with all three characters? :goodvibes

Bendy Sue, FABULOUS update - the pie looked yummy!

Not to sound stalkerish, but I was thrilled with the video - you have a beautiful speaking voice!

I can't wait for your take on V & A's....

Hiya Mrs. Spratt! Thanks for the compliment ... I have to say that's the first time anyone has ever said anything about my speaking voice. I've always thought it sounded too Midwest ... talk through my nose and sound like I have a cold ... but thank you.

V&A ... that's going to take some time. :lmao:

It was onions! and damn it was cold. The weather, not the onions. Well, the onions too.

Onions? Really? I never would have guessed that. Wow.

Jay will probably actually like the calamari with sweet/spicy sauce at Red Square which I recommended before. I'll be glad to split a plate with him in May.

I know he would love that ... I just mentioned it to him and he did his best Homer Simpson drooling impersonation. Very funny but a bit sloppy! :lmao:

I'm having a tough time figuring out how to write this one. I will have to cogitgate for a few days ... luckily next weekend is a 3-day (love those federal holidays) so I've got some extra time to play with it.

I've thought about portraying us all as a bunch of refined hooligans ... :rolleyes1

I have to say .... spicy chicken sausage and polenta is not a dish I would have generally associated with Canada. Don't ask me what dishes I would associate with Canada because other than moose and snowballs I'm not sure. ;)

Whogirl wants Le Cellier for her birthday? Wow ... that's a bit surprising but good for her. And by having late lunch / early dinner you could always take her to Beaches and Cream later that evening for a Kitchen Sink on her birthday. That would be fun!

Hi Gina! That's the only bad thing about hitting F&W at the end of a long trip, but now you just need to plan a WDW trip for October of this year so you can try all the stuff you missed!

Thanks for reading!

I'm having a great flashback to the birthday party, the cake and all the boozey goodness that was had :cloud9:

I liked the sausage too but wasn't thrilled with the polenta. I think my favorite was the paprika beef stew in Austria.

She wants Akershus for breakfast and Le Cellier for dinner. I think she is in love with the cheese soup and creme brulee. She gave up CRT in a snap so we can stay in Epcot the whole day! Thinks princesses (on clothes) are babyish now, but she wants a new princess dress--hers are too short and they don't make them any longer! Poor baby, it must be a hard age.

I want to get her a cake, but what to do with it at 4 pm? We won't be at Beach Club yet, so I can't just walk it back in a snap. I'm going to keep trying for a later dinner time. Thanks for letting me just mumble to myself through this on your dining report!

I'm so glad you were able to join us and I loved finally meeting you!

That beef stew was pretty darn good, too. We liked that one a lot. :thumbsup2

Why not have the cake delivered to the room as a surprise? You could ask them to decorate with some balloons and a banner and maybe even a signed birthday card???

Sunday, October 18th - Moonstruck Chocolate Deminar with Julian Rose

This was a last minute addition to our Festival deminar lineup thanks to X&Y and their unending saga of flight changes. They were originally set to arrive by noon and we were going to have lunch together at Sci-Fi. Then their flight time changed and they weren't going to arrive at the resort until 2PM ... too late for us to join them for lunch with a 5PM ADR at Vickie & Al's; alrighty then, Auntie Crohn canceled the reservation and said, "There's no reason for Jay and me to suffer ... let us eat chocolate."

And so the demo was booked.

And then I found out on this very day that their flight had changed back again and they would likely arrive at the Boardwalk by 12:30PM.

:headache:

I swore a blue streak in four different languages ... three of which I'm not even proficient in. But there was nothing to be done for it - I advised them that their room would probably not be ready but they could still check in, drop their bags with bell services, and then go have some food and fun while we were being edumacated.

Moonstruck Chocolate has been in operation since 1993 - they're located in Portland, Oregon, and their truffles are amazing!!! :cloud9: Chef Julian Rose is their Master Chocolatier and was recently named one of the best Chocolate dudes in all of North America ... yes, he is a pastry-making, cocoa bean manipulating demi god. How could we not attend his deminar?

Since Jay and I were in need of serious thawage, we plopped down on a bench and watched the other attendees slowly clear the entrance to the demo area. It was about this time that the lovely Robin wandered by and stopped to chat - she was also attending this event so we chatted for a bit and then decided to go nab a table. But then we found out we didn't need to nab anything because Jeanne & Marcel had arrived early and they laid claim to a front row table and then saved seats for us without our even knowing it. Talk about brilliant and thoughtful and generous!

Aren't we all cute? Robin and Marcel are on one side, Jeanne, me, and Jason are on the opposite side.

It was the only way the CM could figure out how to get us all in the picture...

Pam ... what is her last name again? ... came out on stage to talk up the winery and then Chef Rose. I only included this picture because I noticed she had two microphones. I've heard of two-fisted drinkers - I may actually be one - but I've never come across a two-fisted speaker!!

One microphone for the wine and another for the food!

Pam and Chef Rose

Chef Rose was very methodical and very detailed but not the most ... vibrant ... of personalities and after a while it seemed to me that the event was dragging a bit. I probably just needed a drop of wine to help me relax. The featured vineyard during this deminar was Kenwood, and we were all served the typical miserly thimble of wine: Jack London Merlot in this case. The wine seemed just fine, but we weren't given enough to really get a good feel for the taste profile.

Mocking the serving size never gets old ...

The downside to sitting in the front row is that when you borrow Improvgal's quarter-to-serving-size comparison and show it to your friends in the middle of a deminar it usually leads to snickering and giggles. And in this case Pam saw what I was doing and gave me the giant eyeball ... for just a moment I felt like I was back in grade school when I'd been caught writing "you are a giant poopiehead" on the wall with crayon.

And then she took a big swig from her fancy-schmancy real wine glass and I didn't feel so bad.

So what did Chef Rose make for us?

Pure Origin Chocolate Tarte with Salted Peanut Caramel ... :thumbsup2

YUM!!!
262.jpg

This was a delight, until I got to the bottom layer of the tarte and found it chock full of peanuts. BAH! I love caramel and I love chocolate and while I bear the peanut no ill will, the Crohn goblin does. And there was no way in hell that I was going to take a chance with that hoary jerk a few hours before our scheduled glutton-fest at Victoria & Albert's. So I ate very carefully, pulled out as many peanuts as I could, and gracefully assisted them in their migration to Jay's plate. I think everyone at the table enjoyed this - I know that Jay and I thought the chocolate ganache used for the tarte filling was incredible ... creamy and delicious ... and the milk / white chocolate triangle with portholes was lovely. It would have been even better with more wine. ;)

As a final note, Jay and I have tried Moonstruck truffles and they really are amazingly delicious. The company does have a website that you can order from if you're so inclined; if you're lucky enough to be able to buy their products in person I urge you to give them a try. Chef Rose makes truly incredible chocolates!!

:rotfl:

At least she didn't make you stand in the corner. I had some of your table mates at one of my food seminars as well. It's a small dis world after all.

My friend lives in Portland and I've gotten box or two of those truffles over the years.:cloud9: At least with them you would know if there was any lurking peanutiness.:scared1:

You know me B, I'd gladly exchange a lunch for chocolate instead. :thumbsup2

Just wondering though...did your dessert taste as good or better than those Stinktown Mice I ate all in one week?? :goodvibes (Best chocolate I ever had!)

Would you believe this is where Olivia is asking for her birthday dinner? (3pm is all I could get :headache:) I guess she's growing up.

DS always request LeCellier and for his birthday last year I had to make Jiko's filet with mac & cheese  Why oh why do we keep encouraging them to try good stuff? :lmao:

B, the chocolate sounds as good as it looks! :cloud9:

That tart looks delicious. Those wine samples are pitiful. :rolleyes1 We decided that if we bother with any seminars this next festival we will bring our own spirits from the wine bar.

That is what we did! I even think we had a glass of prosecco at the vodka seminar! :rotfl2:

Great reviews as always Brenda! No- mocking the wine does not get old! Do you think they will give us all Big Boy Sips this year? :lmao:

The Chocolate looks amazing! And how cute is Robin???? Too cute right!

OH man did i just make a critical mistake..I looked up moonstruck chocolates..and i think i got a contact high from just the descriptions of the sweets!! They are running a free shipping special for a while on orders over $50.00...i just may have to splurge and order some sweets for Valentines/anniversay ( being together 5 years..not wedding ;) purposes for next month......Darn you Brenda and your wily ways!! ;)

That chocolate looks soooo good!!! I had already decided to order dh some See's candy for Valentine's Day; wonder if I need to check out Moonstruck? But I just love See's so much myself! :rotfl2:

Bad Brenda, acting up in the front row! :teacher::laughing:

Why'd you make me go look at those truffles??? :faint: They sound incredible. Me want.
