I would like to see any pictures of hairstyles that were done by the salon on the cruise ships. I'm thinking of maybe having them do mine but I wanted to get some ideas! THANKS

I am wondering about prices.
I have two DDs, one age 14 and one age 11. We just went shopping this past weekend and bought their formal dresses. They asked if they could get their hair styled on formal night. I would like to know how pricing is before I give them an answer.
I would love to see the pictures and know the prices as well.

Here is a picture of the back of my hair. I paid $45 or $55 (I can't remember)for an "up dp" even though I wore my hair down.

I would definitely do it if you get the opportunity. I had a blast getting my hair donw for formal night while watching the ocean go by in the salon. She was able to get my hair done quickly, and the curls lasted through the next day.

I was under the impression that under 18 was not allowed in the salon/spa.

You know, I have never done a spa treatment, massage, etc. so to be honest, I have never been in the spa. I did know that it was a "no children" area, but I guess I just didn't think about the hair style appointment being in the spa. It never entered my mind. I just thought hair appointments would be open to everyone. I guess I will not worry about it.

One thing that adults like about DCL is that they have adults only areas that are enforced. The salon is with the spa and that entire area as well as the workout area is for adults.

Thanks for the great picture I'm hoping to get my hair in curls also. How long did it take for the to do your hair? Wondering what time I should book

The salons on other ships welcome children for hair appts and I find that a nice touch. I'm surprised Disney doesn't allow it, as I'm sure there are many cruisers who would enjoy that experience. Maybe one day they will add something like the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique on the ships so the kids can have a kid only area to receive salon services!:thumbsup2

Yes, a seperate area for children would be nice in a totally different location. They should be able to do that on the new ships. :)

pretty sure I have read on other threads that they (cruise staff) DO have braiding with fun beads and such out on one of the decks for all ages. Not as fancy as an updo of course, but still fun. And to be honest, my girls (DD13 and DD3 ) both had updos for a recent wedding and they barely stayed in long enough to justify the cost. Of course it was humid hot weather, very fine hair and one small child who napped in there someplace. . .I'm just saying!

A shame about the 12-17age set though, they love to feel grown up but living with a houseful of that age kiddos for a few years now? THANK YOU DCL for giving me a place to escape them for an hour or two! :rotfl:

I have my hair done by Alex every time I'm on the Magic. Alex has even colored it. It's wonderful:) The hair cut was $55 and the color about $100 - just what I paid at home. Make your appointment right away - they do get booked.

This is such a good idea- cant believe they havent done it. You know they would make a fortune- in fact that would probably be a more difficult appt to book than a palo brunch on a 4 day!

I know my dd's would have honestly enjoyed having been able to get there's done when they were younger on board. Hopefully they will have it available on the new ships. I think it would be a great touch!

On our last cruise my DD11 was able to accompany me to the salon and get her hair done:confused3
I scheduled it on the first day and then something weird happened. After leaving us a message on our voicemail confirming our appointments, we arrived at the salon to find my dd's appointment mysteriously canceled:scared1:

The girl was wonderful though and fit both of us into my one hour appointment.

Now I'm wondering if they canceled her because of her age:confused3
No one ever said she couldn't get her hair done because of her age though.

I have to find a pic to post:cloud9:

MrsScooby I would love to see the pictures of your hair!! I'm trying to figure out good time to book the salon for, I'm planning on getting to the port early the dy of our cruise since I live about an 1 1/2 away from the Port so hoping to get a wide time window to choose from. Would you say an two hours is enough time to get hair done then go back and get ready? To have enough time to get to dinner on dress up night (late seating). We will not be watching the show that night since we have seen them all and dont care for toy story too much anyway. We will be watching Dreams and Golden Mickey show only this time around. And so more of the game shows and activites on the ship. THANKS!!

As posted sometimes the spa seems to allow younger kids in for hair if they have a lull in appointments...$$$$ reasons only. This is not done often though and I seriously doubt that they would normally have any openings on a formal night.

I haven't posted a photo to the DIS in a long time so I'll have to upload it to photobucket tonight. The salon does a nice job IMHO.

As for how much time to leave, that is not an easy answer. The first time I had my hair done is was for pirate night and all I wanted was for them to put my hair in curlers and I pulled it back with a fancy clip. That took way longer than I thought it would:scared1: I had left 2 hours and I barely made it back in time to throw on my pirate costume and some make-up.

Now for formal night in August 2008 cruise, I made our appointments for around 3:00 pm just make sure we would have time (we had early dining). She did both mine and my dd's hair into an updo in less than an hour. She was very flustered that my dd's appointment had been canceled and was rushing to fit us both into a 1 hour appointment.
We had plenty of time to get into our gowns and line up for formal pics before dinner.

Lisa is probably right in that they will allow younger girls into the salon if they have the time, but will bump them if needed:sad2:
I just wish I had been told this when I made her appointment at the beginning of our 2 week cruise:confused3
Luckily it worked out for us though:goodvibes
My dd11 was thrilled with her hair and I was pretty happy with how mine came out too.
I'll try to post a pic tonight:thumbsup2
