These are a few pics I took while I was at the cottage.

Pickerel Weed

This red pine, down by the river, was struck by lightning 2 weeks ago while my parents and brother were at the cottage. It's about 140' from the cottage and the noise of the strike sure made them jump!! You can see where the lightning stripped the bark off the tree.

Another pic of the "Lightning Tree". The bark is stripped from top to bottom.

Here's a little white pine trying to grow in the shelter of a white birch.

Isn't to often you seen a pic of Pickerel weed. A very pretty plant. especially when in bloom. I have a pot of it in the fish pond it's a favorite hiding spot of a small green frog who decided to call my pond his home.

Amazing what lighting can do to a tree. Many years ago lighting struck a tree (I actually think in went into the ground and came out the tree. Because there was a whole about 2 feet deep outside my back door). We were not home at the time am I glad, to close to home for me, When I opened the door all this mud fell on me. There was a good 5 inches of mud caked to the house. The whole 2 floors right up to the roof. It was quite a project to clean up. Sad to say the tree did not make it.

Maybe we should have a Dis meet there someday, on the mighty Madawaska......nah, too far away!!

Mamu and Amid, you're right about the tree. Now we wait to see if it survives. Our concern is that it will now become infested with something nasty. It will be a shame if we lose it, it's one of only two very large red pine on the property.
