I totally can relate to that! you WANT to but its hard to sit still at the computer when you're at the fort! Thanks so much for the updates and pictures and taking the time to post them!
I know that snakes are there. I have never encountered one. I have even hiked out through the brush well off the beaten path, and never seen one. If you stay in the cleared guest areas, I think it is pretty unlikely that you will see one.

We have been to The Fort a dozen times and have walked all over even the unbeaten paths and us nor our pups have ever encountered a snake. I'm not saying it's impossible, but improbable.

Last year while staying in the 200 loop we were backing out of the site on the golfcart and right behind us wiggling across the road 2 sites up was a snake of about 4 feet long. Don't ask what kind, I wasn't getting that close, we've had deer right outside the door at times and the armordillers running around under the camper.
stay away from areas of standing water and swampy areas. one crossed our path on the sidewalk walking down to the settlement area. believe me, they are just as afraid of you as you are of them!

It's Florida...I saw one ready to take a "dip" in the pool at the Wilderness Lodge. You should have seen that! He was in the brush area around the rockscaped pool..and these poor kids that were trying to trap it with a pole and a pillow case. It was actually kind of funny to watch..from a distance of course!

I know they are everywhere but I was worried that there would be more around the campgrounds...... believe me I will nt be going out of my way to look for them
I just finished viewing pics from this thread, all are awesome. I'm looking forward to stay there on our next trip, do camping, fishing, horse back riding and etc.
