True Disneyland Magic - Rivers of America January 10, 2016
I was in the park to experience a historical day at Disneyland. The last day for some attractions, and the temporary closing and changes to others. While beginning to edit the hundreds of exposures I kept coming back to this one. It was snapped at exactly 2:09:36pm on January 10, 2016. The skies were mostly grey all day, with the sun peaking out about noon for a few minutes. It seemed the sky was reflecting the mood in the park. Not sad enough to be raining, with a hint of excitement of a blue sky trying to peak out, and the knowledge that if you wait long enough the weather will clear and warm days will return.
So this photograph. Taken from the banks of Tom Sawyer Island, just before we rafted back to the mainland and ourselves took a trip on the canoes. I think it sums up pretty much everything Disneyland has come to mean for me, and for you I suspect. Guests happy and interacting with a Cast Member that is not just doing a “job”, but enjoying every minute of being there too. And, the sights, sounds, and smells of being truly transported into a magical world. The sound of oars in the water, of the steam locomotives chugging by on the bank, the whistle of the Mark Twain, or the canon of the Columbia being fired.
Not everything was doom and gloom on Sunday, the last day before closing areas at the park for the begin of Star Wars Land construction. The Mad Hatter and Alice were spotted albeit from a distance, near the Tea Cups. And as Alice herself might say, “well that makes perfect sense most certainly”.
