Pics from Iceland

The one that could mostly be considered "native" is not exactly appealing and something NO Icelandic people today eat (well apart from 1 day a year as a tradition). It consists of rotten shark, sour sheep testicles (and no, I´m not kidding), sour whale fat, roasted sheep head...o.k. I´m sure you get the picture. Let´s stop now!

Our modern cuisine is wonderful and consists mainly of seafood and lamb. I highly recommend it!

I saw Anthony Bourdain eating that on his show in Iceland. Yuck! He found they also eat puffins and whale, too.

The pictures are breathtaking! I plan to visit someday. Chris has offered to take me, but I don't think his heart is in it.

Freyja, the photos are beautiful! Ironically I "stopped" in Iceland, many years ago, at the airport in Reykjavik when I flew Icelandic Air from NYC to Luxembourg. Although the view from the air was fantastic, your pix offer us a more personal look at the beauty there. Thanks for sharing. Caroline

Your pictures are beautiful! I had a friend from Iceland when I was in graduate school and it makes me miss her. She loved to tell me about her home. I haven't heard from her in 9 years and I think she was going to go back to Iceland when she finished her education.

Atlantic Puffins are found exclusively in the North Atlantic Ocean in North America, they nest from Labrador to the Northeastern United States. In Europe, they nest south to the Brittany Coast of France, northwards to Iceland, Greenland, and Northern Russia. Most of the world’s puffins are found in Iceland, where sixty percent of the population breeds.



The young fledge at night to avoid their chief predator the sea gull. They stay out to sea until about their 5th year when they return to nest.

I think they mate for life.
