Picky Eaters Culinary Adventures at WDW (Updated w/ LTT)

Okay okay, so maybe a picky eaters adventure and a more well adventurous eaters adventure may not be the same but this picky eater has found some of her favorite meals right in WDW

We just returned yesterday from a week's stay at the Wilderness Lodge and it was paradise In order to keep the trip alive just a little longer and to possibly help others in their plans for WDW dining they way that so many have helped me I decided to write a review of our adventure

We experienced some "magical" meals and then had some less than stellar meals and performances by CMs as you will hopefully read

Wow, thanks everyone for jumping on board my dining review

As our flight for this trip got us to the Wilderness Lodge later than normal
(6:30pm) I knew after a long day of traveling that we would just want to get settled in and not have to go back out as we were to be at the MK for opening the next morning

I looked at both of the sit down restaurants at WL and decided that the WCC menu appealed to us way more than AP. Mom and I did what will be a reoccurring theme for the week and split an appetizer and entrée while DS ate off the child’s menu (yes he is 14 but eats like a bird most times). We were not on the dining plan so we had no problems with this at all.

Mom & I shared: Mixed Greens - tossed in apple vinaigrette dressing with tomatoes, cucumbers and onions $5.49 & 10 ounce Smoked Prime Rib - with mashed potatoes and season vegetables $20.99

We found the salad refreshingly cold and the dressing was one of my faves – of course being picky we picked off the nasty toppings (tomatoes, cucumbers, onions), the potatoes wonderful, and the prime rib well I made an error on this one. Mom wanted to order it medium well but I insisted on well as I dislike “pink” meat. Well what a mistake as the prime rib was almost inedible as it was so tough and chewy. Also it came with a nasty horseradish sauce that neither of us would touch instead of the agu that we have come to expect and helps with the moisture of well done meal.

DS - Kid's Picks Cheeseburger, fries, chocolate chip cookies $7.59 and Bottomless vanilla shake.

Nice size portion for a kid’s meal and DS enjoyed asking for “ketchup”. He eats very little so he only had 1 shake so it wasn’t quite the “deal” that many make of it but it was a great first night meal as he ate well.

The antics I found fun but calmed a bit compared to earlier trips. The noise though was something else as the restaurant was crowded. Definitely not a quiet retreat as the name “might” suggest and one that requires reservations for dinner on the weekends especially! Oh and the corn bread was moist and a nice starter to the meal.

Overall it was a nice but very noisy start to our vacation. I would definitely go back but if we got the prime rib again I'd listen to mom

Minnie - did you have advance reservations for WCC? We have ADR's - but I am worried that the places I picked will not appeal at all to my husband - but this one would - I think. We are staying at the Polynesian. Is there transportation between the two locations?

Yes we did have an ADR and it was a very busy restaurant. I saw one group turned away as we waited for our time. This was on a Saturday night so that may have been part of it.

There is no direct transportation between the Poly and WL. You could either take the monorail to CR and boat to WL or the monorail to MK and boat or bus to WL. Or if time is an issue it would be quicker to drive or take a taxi.

This is a “must do” for our family and it once again didn’t disappoint. We try to work our day’s itinerary so we end up our morning close to the LTT to avoid back tracking and it worked out great. We had an ADR and were seated quickly in a near empty restaurant. We meal shared again as we find the portions in WDW to be way too large.

DS and I shared: Angus Chuck Cheeseburger topped with bacon and cheddar or mushrooms and provolone served with fresh fruit or tavern fries $11.99. We ordered this well done with cheddar cheese, NO mushrooms (yuck) and fries for DS. For my side, I ordered the Declaration Salad - field greens and vegetables tossed with your choice of our tavern strawberry vinaigrette dressing $5.49

The salad was cold and crisp with very little extra odd veggies that I dislike and the strawberry dressing is one I will definitely be looking up the recipe! The cheeseburger was one like mom used to make. Freshly prepared and nicely well done without the chewy consistency that can sometimes occur. DS liked the fries but then fries are pretty hard to mess up.

Mom - Pilgrims' Feast - traditional roast turkey with herb bread dressing, mashed potatoes and a garden vegetable $14.99

Mom gave her turkey feast a mixed review. The turkey was moist, potatoes tasty, but the dressing tasted like the boxed stovetop stuff (yuck).

Overall I’d still give the restaurant a thumbs up for the salad alone but we may consider giving a different restaurant a try for lunch on our next trip to the MK. Any suggestions???????

Hiya minnie!

Glad you liked both of these, we have them too. I am planning on doing the same thing with my nephew. He will mostly want the kids menu> and hope it isn't a problem. We are paying out of pocket too. The WL sounds perfect for my nephew too.

Off to a great start! We are so the opposite of picky around here, but I love to see reviews from everyone's perspective.

If you decide to veer away from LTT lunch I suggest you try the Plaza. I love CP, but then you would also have the characters.

I'm already finding your reviews amusing.

You mention tomatoes, cucumbers and onions as "nasty toppings" on a salad, but I don't consider it a salad without them. That's just lettuce. I'm not a rabbit.

And the "nasty horseradish sauce" at LTT...I love horseradish on my steak.

I'm going to enjoy these reviews. If you don't like it, I'll probably order it.

They are nasty, especially the tomatoes and onions. That's why I almost always eat only Caesar salads.

I love onions. My Mom says that when I was little, I'd eat an onion like it was an apple!
