Picky eater question

My daughter is a fairly picky eater. Pizza and chicken nuggets are her staple. What if we want to try something new and go somewhere that serves fish and she is not happy at all with the food. The food is fine, but she just doesnt like it. Will they still charge us?

Also, we are thinking about the deluxe dining plan. If this sort of food is just not for her, can we trade in her table service meal for a quick service? For instance, if we go and try a seafood restaurant and she cant stand it, can we leave and I take that table service and get a quick service meal for her?

Thanks in advance for your help. This is the first time using the dining plan and I am very intimidated!

I would expect that you would still need to pay for her meal. Why should the restaurant not charge you for her meal because she's a "picky" eater :confused3 If there are no choices on the menu that she will eat, feed her before you go or choice another restaurant.

If you order her any food and it is served you will be charged $$ or a dining credit whether she eats it or not.

TS meals do have some "picky" eater choices on their menus. Where do you plan to dine?
You can check the menus online and see what they offer.

Not sure how old your daughter is....if she is considered an adult she can still order off the childrens menu and given an adult portion of that item in most cases.

Also usually during free dining you are allowed to trade a TS into a CS credit if she needs to eat that instead.

Not sure what you mean by the DxDDP food not really for her....the deluxe dining is just credits, it has nothing to do with the food.
Some people use deluxe plan at the signature restaurants, but you don't have to. You can go anywhere and use them. You just go more.
That plan is 3 TS meals a day, has nothing to do with the types of foods served.

Hopefully that clears up some questions, if you have more please let us know.

Well, its not that I am afraid she wont have an option, it is just that I wanted her to try new things other than chicken nuggets when going to a place that has this many options. She is 9 so she is falling under the child's credit. So I can't go to a quick service eatery and use a table credit?

If it's a buffet or an all you can eat place, yes they will charge her. Even if you buy her a meal at a counter service and then go to one of these places, they'll still charge her just for being at the table, even if she eats nothing.

If you order food for her and she doesn't eat it because she doesn't like it, yes they will charge for it.

You MAY be able to trade a TS for a CS on the basic plan as part of the transaction itself. If one restaurant doesn't allow it, try another. If you are on the deluxe dining plan, the credits are not TS credits. They are interchangeable for either TS or CS.

If you have already ordered food for her at a TS, and she doesn't eat it, you cannot re-use that credit that you have already spent to buy a second meal at a CS that she will eat.

During free dining times, yes you are usually able to use a TS credit at a CS place. It doesn't always happen, but it is reported that when free dining is going on they are a bit more relaxed about how you spend your credits.
So yes, you will most likely be able to do so.

I understand you wanting her to "try" new things. It is so important that you do so. But it will be up to you whether to spend her credits at a TS place or just use them for things you know she'll eat.

OOOHHHHHHH yes I am going to get the deluxe so that works out PERFECTLY!! I will just order something and then let her try it and if she doesnt like it, then I will get her something else at a counter service place.

THANK YOU!! :disrocks:

Just remember that if you attend a buffet or all you can eat family style they will charge your daughter whether she eats or not.

Oh didnt know that. Make sense though. Thanks for the help!

One way to accomplish this is to do lots of buffets - you can get dd to try small bits of a lot of different things and if they are 'no go' then just have her go to the kids nuggets part of the buffet.

At a la carte restaurants, personally I don't think I would use WDW as a place to try brand new things. Most picky eaters (at least the ones I know) won't be in love with completely new food on the first try. And then it will take twice as long as she sits there hungry...and you try to hurry up and eat....and then head to a CS place and wait in line just to get her food. If it was me, I'd look at the menus carefully and pick either buffets or places that have something she'll eat on the kids menu.

I think it just makes more sense to try those brand new things at home when it's a lot less expensive and a lot more convenient than when on vacation.

You are then going to spending two credits for her meal - one credit for the TS meal she didn't eat and another for the CS meal. Unless you pay OOP for one of them (presumably the cheaper one), you'll run out of credits for her.

Oh no. I meant that I would order something and see if she would like it then if she didnt like what I had, then we would get her a counter service. Thanks everyone! I get it now! :teeth: but I am sure I will have more questions
