Picking up dog poo????

We line a 5 gal bucket (a small bathroom wastebasket will do) with a plastic shopping bag, go around the yard with the pooperscooper and just drop it into the lined bucket, this eliminates the chances of getting any on your hands or parts of the bag close to your hands. Then we tie up the bag and drop it into the large outside trashcan.

This is what I do too...$2 bucket from Home Depot, $10 pooper scooper from the hardware store, and plastic grocery bags, works well for me
Edited to add- our pup doesn't potty when we go on walks, she waits until we get home, so no messing with that clean up for me.

We don't get plastic bags from our groceries because we use re-useable bags, but we save bread bags, the bags from inside the cereal box, bags from chips, pretzels etc.

In the yard we use a designated garden scooper that is just for poop and we put it all in one bag and pick it all up twice a week. On walks we bring the bread bags with us and we never seem to run out. My parents save them for us too.

Anyway, we save our BIG dog food bags, as well as some of the 40-50 lb. sunflower seed bags we have. I go around every couple of days with a shovel and a rake and when I'm done it all gets deposited into 1 of these bags.

When it is half full of poo, it gets put into a black hefty bag and put into the trash! I know, gross for the trash guys but the hefty bags do a good job at containing all the smell.

I have asked many prof. gardeners if composting dog poo can be done. Nope....

This is exactly what we do too. I was wondering what kind of dogs have poop that can fit in zip loc bags - loL! Big dog here too!

We have this. Ours is called the Doggie Dooley, I think. It is fantastic! We can't use it in the winter because it gets too cold and the water would freeze up, but we use it the rest of the year. One of the best days yet this spring was the day we got the Dooley up and running again. I was so tired of putting the poop in the bag inside the 5 gallon bucket!

That's what I want...can you smell it??? My mom has a rental and the house next door to it has 3 dogs and she doesn't clean up so when the renters sit on the patio the smell is really bad.

No, it is really great! We were worried about smelliness, especially in the summer so we have it in a spot way in the back of the yard, but even on the hottest days last summer, it never smelled too bad. It was definitely less offensive than the bucket of poop we had in non-Dooley season! You just have to remember to add the water and the activator/powder once a week. It is basically like a septic tank for dog poop.

It was a bit of a pain to install properly because you have to dig a pretty deep hole but it has been worth it. I just scoop up the poop, walk it to the dooley and drop it in. I would definitely recommend it. We have a 50 lb mutt and got the larger size dooley, I think they come in 2 or 3 sizes.

My neighbor chucks his dog's poop in the back section of his yard. There's about a 10 foot strip of trees and bushes back there and that's where it lands. He uses a really big shovel, scoops it up, and flings.

We had a doggie dooley, but it didn't work for us. It seemed like since our dogs deviate from their standard doggie diet after being, um, fed by our parrot... the dooley wasn't happy digesting fruity bird pellets. And I always had to hold my breath when I opened the lid, but I'm very sensitive to smell so YMMV on that one.

I just use my plastic walmart or grocery store bags.

this is what we've been using for years. I bought a cheap spoon that you would use for stirring spaghetti sauce as the scooper and then we just put it in a plastic store bag. We usually then place that bag in another one, just to be sure.

I bought a roll of bags like you would find in the produce section of the grocery store. The store I go to has bulk food and they use them for that. I got a roll of like 2500 for $15 that was years ago and I still have plenty. probably in the next couple of years I will have to replace them. They are thicker so it makes it nice that I know my hand will stay clean.

I use biodegradable dog poo bags. You can find them everywhere. I'm surprised buy how many people just use a plastic bag so so bad for the environment. That stuff just sits in there decomposing and then when it finally escapes and hits ground water it has become toxic. It really is worth either investing in bags or a dog doo decomposition unit. Trick is pick it up right away don't wait or it just gets ugly.

I use plastic bags that are in the little bone shaped dispenser attached to our dog's leash. She doesn't always wait until she gets home from a walk and right now our backyard isn't fenced so she's only ever out on the leash. When the fence is installed I'll just have one of my kids go pick it up out of the backyard.

On walks, I do use baggies - but they are used ones. I make the kids save baggies that are "dry." If they hold muffins, cookies, sandwiches, etc. I have a friend that saves them for me too since her dog is too big for a baggie. We don't use baggies that much, but I still have a huge stash of baggies that would have been landfill anyway.

There was an article about this in Dog Fancy recently. I am a pet sitter and I'm picking up poop all day, so it caught my interest. The article pointed out that even biodegradable bags really aren't good, because they do not degrade if they're sitting in the middle of a big heap. They have to be exposed to air and sunlight to break down, and most things in a landfill are covered by other things. Their suggestion was to pick it up and flush it down your toilet. Quite honestly that's not really my style because I don't want to carry the poop back into my house but I guess it's the most ecologically friendly option.

I have considered the Doggie Dooley but we have a very small yard and I was afraid it would smell bad. Maybe I'll look into it again.

Can anyone share their method of cleaning up dog poo from their yard?? I was using a ziploc baggie but its getting costly. Any other ideas how to dispose of the poop from my yard? Sorry if TMI......

We use a $1 cat scooper (we have a rock area where the dog does his business) and place it in a plastic bag that they give out at the shopping stores. I actually use my own bags for shopping, so I just grab a few each visit and use those. That cat scoop thing is perfect!

We just leave it in the backyard. . .and we have the healthiest grass you've ever seen. Grows a couple of feet every couple weeks. If DH doesn't mow it for a couple of weeks, we send the dogs out armed with pith helmets and machetes.
