Picking up dog poo????

We line a 5 gal bucket (a small bathroom wastebasket will do) with a plastic shopping bag, go around the yard with the pooperscooper and just drop it into the lined bucket, this eliminates the chances of getting any on your hands or parts of the bag close to your hands:scared1:. Then we tie up the bag and drop it into the large outside trashcan.

We used to have the digester or whatever it is called at our old house. Worked very well and I would recommend it to anyone. It basically was a thing you buries, dump the poop in, occasionally put the powder on and add water. We had 3 large dogs and it was a breeze
We moved, and I now have 2 small dogs that only poop in the woods. Damn I love these dogs :cool1: Unfortunately, the neighbors recently got a german shepard that only likes to poop right outside my door. It is driving me ~insane~

We have this. Ours is called the Doggie Dooley, I think. It is fantastic! We can't use it in the winter because it gets too cold and the water would freeze up, but we use it the rest of the year. One of the best days yet this spring was the day we got the Dooley up and running again. I was so tired of putting the poop in the bag inside the 5 gallon bucket!

We have a lot of poop from our dogs- one being a giant and one being large and then two ankle sniffers. We use the plastic bags from shopping- they all get kept for kitty litter duty and doggy poop duty!

I got a scooper from Petsmart because I was tired of using plastic bags for the back yard. Now I just dump it in the big garbage can I keep out there.

For walks, I get bags from the Dollar Store - 50 bags for 1.00, good price and they last for a bit.

I like the idea if the doggie dooley in the ground. Does it stink every time you open the lid though???

If it's in our yard, we don't pick up very often. Every now and then, we will rake it all into one spot. Anywhere else, we use dog poop bags.

We have a shovel that we use to pick it up and it goes in a small metal trash can that is lined with plastic grocery bag. It gets dumped 2x a week to get put out in our trash. I am out with dogs when they go potty so poop gets picked up right when it um...hits the grass. I am not a fan of walking in yard and stepping in it. So this way I have a poop free yard. :thumbsup2

I have asked many prof. gardeners if composting dog poo can be done. Nope....
You can compost anything that is organic material. You just wouldn't want to use that compost to put onto food plants.

All composting is is letting nature do it's work to break down the organic materials. Just leave the dog poo sit in the yard, it will eventually disappear. That is it breaking down as in composting.

We just used a spade shovel and chucked it under the big pine trees that line the back of our property. Within a few months, it is gone. Country living is so much easier than city living :goodvibes

Thats currently what I am doing....chucking it over the fence ;) I am afraid it will start to stink though now that summer is coming!

Oh I hadn't thought to do that. The house next door to us is abandoned. I wonder if I could be able to throw it over that way. I don't have much of a swing though. I could imagine it would end with me having poo on top of my head. hmmm maybe better rethink that :rotfl2:

I use newspaper bags, rolls that I find cheap at big lots, or the bags you get from fruits or veggies. We have a small lidded trash can that we keep outside that we put them in there, and then we dispose of that with our weekly garbage. Ideally they would always go in the woods when we take them for their many daily walks, but our dogs are picky about where they will poop so they can't always find a spot in the acres of woods behind us , and they have to go in a place that we need to pick it up.

On walks I have the leash bag attachment.
Our backyard fence backs up to woods so we scoop it up with a shovel and throw it into the woods. We used to have a big dog and now have a little one and have never had issues with smell in the spring/summer.

:thumbsup2agreed-and I personally find it horrifying that we,as a culture take one of the most easily disposed of/composted item in the world, and turn it into a plastic encased, bacteria and filth laden pile of horror, and then add it to the landfills.....ewwww seriously, all these millions of plastic bags of poo are going somewhere,if people started cleaning it up,and composting waste properly,it would be so much better for everything.
That said, while out walking I carry mini plastic bags,b/c I don't have a choice. and in my yard,we compost it in the woods,it disappears quickly.....

nah- it biodegrades really fast,as long as you're not dumping a truckload in the same spot daily;)

Bags from cereal boxes, crackers, chips, etc.... We save plastic bags from everything to use for pooper scoopin.

Can anyone share their method of cleaning up dog poo from their yard?? I was using a ziploc baggie but its getting costly. Any other ideas how to dispose of the poop from my yard? Sorry if TMI......:rotfl:

My MIL has an old shovel that she uses to pick it up, then they carry it to the edge of the woods behind their house and leave it under the brush back there (far away from their house or the neighbors houses, it's a state forest back there).

My Brother, on the other hand, pays a service. The lady comes twice a week with a pooper scooper and picks up the poop from all over his yard. :lmao:
