Can you pick up your own baggage at the airport and take it on ME? I may send DD7 and Dh on ME since they are flying in the day after DD2 and I drive down. We will have the bulk of the stuff, but they will have DD7's essentials and asthma meds. I would rather not wait for luggage delivery. Is this allowed and, if so, how does it work?

DME or not, if she has "essentials and asthma meds" then she really NEEDS to carry them on the plane with her and not trust them in checked baggage. It's not worth the risk in case the AIRLINE delays or loses the luggage. I would never dream of putting my kids' Xopenex and Pulmicort and their nebulizer in a checked suitcase.

Now, to answer your question ....
Anyone is permitted to opt out of the automatic luggage delivery. DO NOT place the DME luggage tags on the bags. Go to baggage claim as usual, then take those bags to the DME Welcome Center. When you go to board the bus, the driver will load the bags under the bus, and then unload them for you when you're dropped off at the resort. It's no problem at all for DME to do this.

But again, even if you were picking your daughter up at the airport in your own car, I'd try dreadfully hard to convince you NOT to pack her "essentials and asthma meds" in ANY piece of checked luggage.

Got to echo CleveRocks. Any time you are traveling;
Never put meds in your checked bags.
Always have them in your carryon.

Its got nothing to do with ME. Checked bags can, and do, get misrouted by the airlines.

You should also bring a change of clothes in your carry-on as well.

I've seen airlines lose or delay luggage before that contained life-dependant medication in it.

Add me on to the list of ALL ESSENTIAL MEDICATION MUST BE PUT INTO CARRY-ONS. As long as you declare it, and have proper documentation, the TSA will allow it through security.
