Picking a room with Murphy bed on Fantasy?

I’m hoping to get advice on picking a room on the Fantasy to maximize sleeping comfort. I’m aiming for forward or midship to minimize vibration and ocean movement (so either forward close to midship or midship close to forward) for motion sickness reasons. We want a verandah. We do not want to pay for concierge. So I’m looking at deluxe family ocean view versus just deluxe ocean view.

I am seeing that some of the deluxe family rooms say they sleep 5 and think this is due to a Murphy bed option. Is the Murphy bed more comfortable and better for adults than the standard bunk beds? And how can I figure out which rooms have what? The Disney website doesn’t seem to tell me, unless I’m missing something.

We’re only a party of 3 (2 adults, 1 4 year old) but my 4 year old typically needs to sleep with me if any of us want to get any sleep on vacation, so my husband is often the one exiled to the other bed. We typically get rooms with two queens when we travel for this reason but obviously not an option on the ship. He’s 6’1 and over 200 pounds (but under the 250 limit I’m seeing for the bunk beds).

So I guess my question is - would the Murphy bed be more comfortable for him or are they the same? And if so, how do I pick a room that has one?

Go on the DCL website and try to plan a fake cruise on the Fantasy for 5 people. It will show you the options for the staterooms that sleep 5 which include the Murphy bed.

Ok, I’ve confirmed which one have five beds but it’s SLIM pickings for our dates. Could still do it but not in my ideal location. So now I’m wondering if anyone can confirm if the Murphy bed is actually better or not really?

I can confirm that the Murphy bed is more comfortable for me than the sofa bed. If my cabin has both, I always pick the Murphy bed to sleep on.

How far in advance are you booking? I have never seen every cabin up for grabs at the start. I booked one cabin and then a couple weeks later found one I liked better (which was not available when I first booked) and called DCL to switch.

Maybe your daughter would get excited about the top bunk? It has glow in the dark stars on the ceiling!

Oh interesting! We’d be about 8 months out (March 1). It seems there are no five person rooms in the forward section at all on any deck and maybe 5 in the midship area (on decks 7 and 9). Plenty Aft though. And the rooms on 7 and 9 seem *fine* but just not as perfectly positioned as some of the 4 person ones, so I’m thinking over whether the Murphy bed is actually likely to be better (I searched these forums and seems like there are some split opinions on this).

I first booked in January for a November cruise. It just looks . . . “Bad” . . if you have 2000 cabins and just 500 are booked. So they release them a bit at a time. I also had a DCL reservation person suggest a cabin that wasn’t showing up for me online. You have more than enough time to switch. I would book a 5 person cabin so that when you do switch, it’s the same category. Otherwise the price may have gone up.

You could be also running into a few situations where rooms with Murphy Beds are available but are not showing up as such due to life boat capacity issues based on other bookings.

The Murphy is more comfortable. But you don’t need a cabin for 5. You can actually see the specific bedding available when selecting the cabin in the booking process. Select the cabin and then click on „details“ it will then show the exact beds available.

Is this a new feature? I’ve been in “Family” staterooms that sleep up to 5 but only have the couch bed and murphy bed with no bunk bed but it never told us that during the booking process. It still said it sleeps up to 5.

I think searching for cabins that say they will sleep 5 is easier than searching for cabins that sleep 4 with hopes they are the rare ones with a Murphy Bed and no top bunk. That specific combination should be a separate searchable category and it’s not.

It’s been around for a bit. But not years and years. I used it in 2024.

I looked at family staterooms with veranda yesterday and saw that indeed most have a bunk and no Murphy bed. For oceanview that’s different, there actually there are more with Murphy and no bunk. Might be because if structural issues all the way to the front.

Oh, interesting! Have only had one ocean view cabin and there’s no way there was space for a Murphy bed. I thought the family cabins were the only ones big enough. The couch, double bed and Murphy require a lot of floor space.

It’s category 8 Family oceanview. They have large portholes and are either forward or aft. They are fantastic rooms in my opinion as they add the floor space of the balcony of a standard balcony cabin into the room. Our favorite cabin on Dream and Fantasy. The porthole is nearly the full height of the room.

We were on the Fantasy last April, Room 9008 Front. The murphy bed was in the wall as the picture posted above. We had an adjoining room with friends and it was the same setup. It was our first cruise, you could feel the waves chopping when moving along with the empty coat hangers clanging back and fourth.

We booked for the Destiny but as a mid ship for spring of 2026.

I know when I booked my room on the wish in the description it listed the sofa bed, upper berth and fold out murphy bed.
