picked up EA Active for the Wii today...anyone else?

It was on my list of things to do today, but I got called to work at the last minute, so I didn't get to go shopping. I am actually thinking that I might wait a bit to hear some reviews before I spend the $$ on it.................P

okay I managed to mess with it but only for a very short period. Seems cool thus far, but I definitely need more time with it.

the leg thingie seems well constructed, much better then I expected. However I found that after a few minutes the thingie started to slip a bit. I think I just need to figure out the proper way/location to secure the strap. The band that comes with it isnt all that impressive. Doesnt offer enough resistence IMO, so next time I fire it up I will use one of other cords and see if I like it better with that. Only messed with a half dozen or so exercises, but from brief time with it, I would definitely say its more exercise oriented then Wii Fit. Probably wont get time til this weekend to play with it again, but I will update my impressions then if anyone is interested.

We got one, my husband wrote a kind of review here: http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2180594&highlight=wii+active

I really liked it. We run, and it still gave me a pretty good work out (compared to Wii Fit, which was an okay workout, but more fun than anything else for me). There are tons of options, and you can do your own customized workout, and there are several different options to pick from when you are making a custom workout.

The resistance band isn't all that great though like you said. But it works until you can get a regular resistance band.

I liked the review it shows you of your workout, it is decently detailed, and if you are working out with a partner it shows your individual workout review which is nice.
Overall I really like it and we are glad we got it, so far anyways. I was certainly sweating when I was finished. I liked the running part of it much better than on the Wii Fit, it just seemed better, and I liked how you are on a virtual track... and your character doesn't fall on their face if you go fast haha.

I found that if you put it on bare skin (if you are wearing shorts) it stays on nicely. Also my husband discovered that it stays on well on him when he puts his running tights (which are shorts) on, and then puts it over that it stays really well for him.

I've got mine set on easy, and it's killing me! It made me run! Luckily on day 2 I figured out how to uncheck the things I didn't want to do. I couldn't figure out how it considered a run a warm-up. I thought I should have to warm up before the run! I was collapsed into the recliner huffing and puffing after a run and it said, "Now lets do some squats to increase your heart rate." What? My heart's already jumping out of my chest! Since I hadn't worked out in about 2 months I guess it's going to take some time to get back in the swing of things! I'm impressed with the game itself though. There's been a couple times when it couldn't detect what I was doing, but for the most part it works really well.

I though it was alot of fun. Did medium intensity and I was sweating but not dying. I want to do more. Maybe I'll do it again tonight. I even feel the possibility of getting up and doing it in the morning - it seems more interesting than doing the treadmill.. Trip is 4 weeks from today and I am not at my trip goal weight yet. Gotta a long way to go for the real goal weight. LOL

okay...reposting what I posted in another thread

okay I just finished my 1st day of the 30 day EA Active challange. Was 16 sets of exercises (not 16 different exercises, most were repeated twice) The first workout ran about 15 minutes, burned about 175 calories and I will admit I worked up a bit of a sweat doing it. One area that this has an advantage over Wii Fit is that its 1 exercise after another, you dont have to go back to the menu and pick a new exercise option this just rolls into the next exercise. There are instuctional vids at the start of each exercise but you can skip it once you know how to perform them. I still say the resistance band is too wimpy, tried an resistance cord I had but the handles are too thick to allow you to hold the wii controls as well. I have a thicker band around here somewhere, when I find it I will try that one out in place of the ones included.

The exercises I had in the first workout included: Walking/running. Squats. Side lunges. Boxing. Bent over rows. Shoulder lifts Inline Skating...something else that I cant recall.

The only exercise I wasnt that thrilled with was the inline skating exercise, basically you do a squat, the lower you get the faster your character goes, then when you hit a ramp you have to jump.

Overall I am impressed so far. I am looking forward to seeing what other exercises are in there.

did the same work out a second time this afternoon and yes indeed I did some sweating I give this a :thumbsup2

I did day 2 of 30 day challenge. I am really enjoying this! It is a much better workout than wii fit. Much better flow to get the heart rate up. I really enjoyed the boxing with the balance board. It had kicking and punching and really got my heart rate up.

We are thinking about buying it. But don't want it to take the fate of all our other equipment that now has clothes hanging to dry!
:yay:

just finished my second day (no boxing in my day 2 workout :( ) I switched the resistance band to another shorter thicker one I had (actually too short the over head presses had me afraid the band was going to snap or the handle straps were going to come flying off, need to find another band between this one and the one that comes with the game) Definitely worked up a sweat, hands down this is a much more of an exercise program then wiifit is.

We picked it up last night and I did one easy workout. It's pretty fun and I like it a lot better than the wii fit. I'm going to look for a different resistance band when I go shopping again because it is a little weak and I'm afraid it's going to snap and tear apart. It felt like an actual workout, not like the wii fit, but I'll have to do some more today.
I'm a little confused about how many calories you burn though. I've had the wii fitness coach for about half a year and do it often and in a 60 minute workout I only burn about 120 calories and I can hardly move when it's over and I'm sweating like crazy. But I finished my easy workout in 18 minutes last night on the EA active and it said I burned 74 calories and I was hardly sweating. :confused3 I'm doing most of the same exercise on the fitness coach so I don't know how that's possible?

So if you use this with two players - can you have two different levels? I want to do it with my son but we would be on two different levels of fitness? Can we do this together or would we have to do separately?

something doesnt sound right, if you are going 60 minutes of exercise and sweating like crazy you burned more then 120 calories, heck I can sit on my butt and burn that much in an hour ;)

Just in case anyone is interested, I have found this at Costco for $51.69. Not sure what the price is elsewhere. I grabbed it and put it in my cart, but then I put it back. I want to continue to hear about it before I invest any $$...........................P

I am using it. Not losing much weight yet, but boy oh boy, are my legs getting a work out. I can walk the dog longer, my shoulder and arm muscles are doing well, too.
I really needed help on my left arm/shoulder, it is pretty weak.

I am loving it!

I am doing the 30 day challenge and I love the variety each day and that after 2 day of exercise it gives you one day of rest. I think that I am at day 10. Today was my rest day:cheer2: I can't say that it is a great aerobic workout, for that I do something else, but it is definitely a great toning plan. I can really feel it in my legs and fanny. I do want to get a little be better resistance band.
