Photpass..no more release

and ye, i actually have photo cds that i just view on my computer..you can also use your computer printer to print the photos..

Walmart is a biggie for halting people without releases.

Well, I didn't use walmart but it is interesting nonetheless. For the record, when I go in to print pictures I have the release on the SDcard too. I wouldn't take my pictures anywhere to be printed without it. I have just never been asked for it.

ONe of the places I have never had a problem using my Disney photos is the online photo places. AFter every trip I make a photobook online. Never had a picture turned away. Never been asked to provide a release.

Maybe they view pictures with my family in it as non Disney photos whereas, if I included some of the stock disney photos, the might turn THOSE away.

Not true at the Walmart's I have gone to in TX and Illinois. I have NEVER been asked for the release, i always have it because it's in the case. I am actually lucky if i can get any help at all using the photos machines.

It's always hit and miss when trying to print pictures from Walmart, Costco, etc. I've heard they ask to see release when they see catchlights (bright spots in eyes from sun, reflector, etc) which is total BS, but makes me laugh none the less.

It would be very dumb of Disney to eliminate the cash cow that is Photopass CDs because people won't buy them if there is a requirement that you can never print them.

also, what is this putting photos on the castle anyway? I have never seen or heard about it until tonight.

What is to stop people from using a release from a previous CD? I just looked at my release from our April 2010 CD and there isn't a date on it.

And unless you are printing photos with the borders most photo places don't even know that the photos were taken by Disney. I always print the release whenever I print any of the photos with the borders, but have never been asked to show the release when printing the plain Photopass photos without borders.

That is another good question. How would a retailer even know if you don't have any disney borders on it?

It is a new light projection show on Cindarella Castle.

When did this start. Are they photos from that particular day or just photos from the entire year?

From that day. I have only read one report of it so far but a man said when his daughter met the fariys they were asked to give permission to use the photos in the show and they did see their daughters photo on the castle that night. I will try to find the thread and post a link.

Just looked this up on Youtube and that has got to be one of the coolest things I have seen in a long time. :thumbsup2

If you thought getting a seat in the hub was hard before. jeez.

Does this go on between the parade and fireworks I take it?

Ok I found the thread where the man talks about his daughters picture being used in the show. I was a little confused on the process so here you go.

We went to Disney last week and Tues morning we took my 3 girls to the Hall of Fame to get some pics with the princesses (very short wait, very long wait for the fairies). My 3 yr old just couldn't get over seeing Belle. We were doing the photopass so I handed my card to the photographer and I noticed that he took alot of pics of my 3 yr old before they were posing and afterward he handed me my card back and then handed me a card that had the steps to take if you didn't want your pic to be considered for the light show. I didn't see him give the same opt out card to the people behind us. Well sure enough, that night they put her pic up twice. My Wife went nuts. Now there may not be anything to this but I can't help but think that certain photographers are "pickers" and somehow they tag the photo batch for when it's downloaded to Disney's system.

Anyway, the show is awesome and seeing your child's pic up there is something you'll never, never forget. Too bad we came back with a vicious flu we caught on the trip.

I'm sure if they were going to stop sending the release because of the castle light show they would have stoped BEFORE they started this show. And yes with out the release the CDs value is lessened.
It has been a few years since I used one of the kiosk type places to print photos but at the time you needed to get an employee to unlock the machine for you and they did check the photos or CD to make sure it was not copyrighted. I remember this at Walgreens. I cant speak for anywhere else or current practices.

I can actually use this to my advantage. My DS9 hates it when I stop for a photopass picture. Maybe now I can pique his interest if he thinks there is a chance that our pic could end up on the castle.

I tried to post this last night but it wouldn't go through. Doing so now.

I didn't say all, but Walmart is one that comes up over and over.

I have a friend who ran (maybe still does, we lost touch) an event planning business, and she did everything from invites to flowers etc. She is really good with graphic design, and made her own baby announcements. She had it on her memory card, took it to walmart to print them, and they tried to KEEP not only the announcements, but the memory card, because they insisted that it was not hers. Said she would have to come up with permission from the designer and had a very hard time understanding that SHE was the designer.

Yes, my brother doesn't print pictures either, he's content to just have them on the computer. I like printing and putting things on my wall, and sending them to older relatives who also like having things on their walls.

With the low level of printers I have, I'm not going to be printing photos... I'll have the experts do it.

Sorry if I came across as really aggressive. Sometimes these rumors get started because someone at Disney tells someone else and it gets all twisted b/c the initial person (not you, but whoever told your managers, I have to assume) didn't really get it. Happened on the Disneyland forum about something a couple years ago, and it took quite a bit to convince people that the rumor wasn't true. So I was trying to type quickly and be hyper-logical, but I fear it came out as cyber-smacking you around, and I'm sorry for that.

I could imagine them ending the CD, most definitely (although, wow, I paid 99.95 for less than 50 original photos, and 17 of them were the bonus ones they've been tossing on the discs), because in 10 days in the parks we could barely be bothered to stop for pix. I edited them into nearly 400, of course, b/c I'm good at doing that, but still, less than 50 original pictures. 99.95. I'm a sucker...:headache:

And it's mainly because I chose to NOT take my OWN pictures when my son was meeting Aurora and Mickey! Best pictures, very worth having, and I let PP take over, so I couldn't NOT go through with the CD purchase...

They are not having the release anymore becasue of the photo's being projected on the castle. their reason is if YOU own the photos becasue you have a release, Disney cant potentially use the photos on the castle becasue you own them.

That's not true. Giving you a release to print the photos does not convey ownership of the photos.
