Photpass..no more release

That makes the value of the CD go down remarkably. Who cares if you have the CD if you can't print them.

The photopass cd no longer comes with a release that allows you to use the photos as you wish. This is happening because of the new photopass pictures being used in the new castle projection show.

What's your source? The photopass site states that the release is still included.

Hmm. On the Photopass site, they're still advertising that you get a release. I'd contact customer service. That's the whole point of the CD--to get the release so you can do as you wish with the photos! :O

Has Disney made any announcement about this? I have pre-purchased the photopass cd for our upcoming trip, but I will definitely not be going ahead if it doesn't come with the release.

I don't see why anyone would buy the cd then. Or you can just use the release from your old cd.

But that doesn't make any sense... who the heck is going to purchase the PhotoPass if they don't get the release form? Certainly not me! What's the point if I can't print the photos for our scrapbooks?

They are not having the release anymore becasue of the photo's being projected on the castle. their reason is if YOU own the photos becasue you have a release, Disney cant potentially use the photos on the castle becasue you own them.

Its still cheaper to buy the cd with as many photos as you can get, than to have the photos printed individually from photpass..

But many places will not produce prints or photobooks without the release. If anything I would think that Disney would need a release from us to use the pics, not being denied the use by giving us a release.

So what is the deal for people who don't want their own or their children's picture splashed on the castle or handed over to Disney to use as they see fit?

Can they still use photopass? Does it work like it did? Or do they have to read and sign paperwork?

I don't want us on the castle and I don't want anything to do with signing stuff without the lawyer...and I don't carry the lawyer around on vacation.

I think I'm totally confused then. My scenario is:

I purchase the photopass CD for our September trip. Arrive back home, add some fun things to my photos and have the CD shipped. Then I want to pick & choose certain photos for Wal-mart or Costco to print so I can create a Disney scrapbook.

If Disney no longer includes the release, that means Wal-mart, Costco, whoever, can refuse to print the photos. Is this correct?

If that is correct - then I won't be purchasing the CD. I'll ask for photos to be taken with my camera. I want the option of scrapbooking with them... making larger prints... putting photos on mini purses, etc., etc.

I just went to the photopass website. It clearly says that the copyright release is included.

I am planning on pre ordering a CD for our trip in April. If the copyright release is no longer included, I will not order the CD.

From the photopass site:

Disney's PhotoCD

Disney's PhotoCD comes with a limited license agreement which grants permission to reproduce the photos on the disk for personal use only. The copyright agreement is stored on the CD itself and is located in the main directory. Instructions on how to access this file are located on the back of the CD case. You must present this agreement to your photo retailer when you create prints of your Disney's PhotoPass photos.

This doesn't seem to prevent Disney from using the pictures, also: it's a license agreement, not a sale of the copyright.

I also looked at my CD from last year, and it says that Disney owns the copyrights to the pictures. So, no change.

No you are correct, IF this is indeed the case, some places - notably Walmart from what I have read - will not print your photos.

I agree. Who would buy a useless CD you aren't allowed to print from?

That's what I thought. The quote below confused me. For why would I want to purchase the CD if I don't get the release?

You can always download the photopass cd to your computer and select what you want and burn those on a blank disc. If you go to Walmart etc you use the machines yourself then pay no offense but as long as it's a family photo the average clerk anywhere at any do it yourself photo place won't question you . I have done it with previous photo pass CDs no one has ever asked me for the release.

There are lots of places that have kiosks where you can just print whatever you want. :)
