Photoshop Elements

rats Ann, you couldn't have posted this last week before i wasted money on 7 since my 5 died? :rotfl:
i just installed it and, oh well it least it looks like it's updated some. if only i could have used painterx with 16 bit and not just 8 bit.

If only you could have waited a week to install it, I could have sent this to you! ;) Oh well---at least you have something installed and it's actually working, even if it wasn't free. :)

How do you rate the scanner?

Honestly, can't give it a rating just yet---I only opened it and scanned 3 negatives and then boxed it right back up to bring upstairs to our computer room. It was easy to use, I like that there is an illuminator (I don't know if that's really what it's called) for scanning negatives and it wasn't very expensive---$150 and it came with PE6, so not a horrible deal at all. Once I've used it more though, I can definitely try to give you a more thorough review. :thumbsup2

Hmm. We don't have a scanner. I would LOVE to scan through our negatives so I don't have to keep hanging on to them. And DH would LOVE to have some incarnation, ANY incarnation, of PhotoShop. Hmm...

I believe this scanner does 120 size negatives and 35mm negatives. So far, so good. For what it's worth though, if you only have 35mm film you are probably better off actually getting a 35mm film scanner like the Wolverine (although I have no idea if this is a good one or not) and then buy Elements on its own. It's only $45 with free shipping on Amazon.com right now, definitely much less expensive than that new lens your DH wants. ;)

hey I have a quick question does anyone know how to make blurry pics less blurry or is there no way of doing that on photoshop?? or any suggestions thxs :)

Let me make sure I say this correctly. You can sharpen an image in three different ways in photoshop 7. That is you can take a pretty sharp picture and improve it.

There is not way to repair an out of focus picture.

Unsharp Mask is the main method for sharpening a photo in PS. From the name this is exactly what it seems you would not want to use but it works. Depending on how blurred your photo is, and how much improvement you would like, it may help.

Are there enough changes to warrant purchasing the as of yet unreleased version over version 7? I have been trying to find a copy of 7 locally and had already purchased a companion book for it, then discover that v. 8 is due for release in a few weeks. I downloaded the free 30 day trial of v.8 from Adobe but haven't had a chance to play around with it yet.

Normally if the picture is blurry, cuz you took it blurry... you can't un-blur it. You can sharpen the pic, but really can't take out the blur. How bad is the blur? It would help to see the picture to get better in put.

I agree with the posts above but also want to add that sometimes you can salvage a really blurry image by applying a filter such as Poster Edge or Posterize or Water Color etc. It changes the image into a different kind of photo but it can work; especially for scrapbooking.

The Elements Village board has some information, including videos showing features; here's a link:

FYI - Elements Village is a great reference and board for this and any question about Photoshop Elements.

Thanks! I haven't used Photoshop in years, so I guess it's like starting over for me. On the one hand I purchased this book, and I can get v.7 for at least $20 less thanv.8. On the other, if v.8 is more user friendly than v.7, wouldn't it make more sense to purchase the newer version?

ok here r pics here is one that is just semi blurry but the weird thing is that when I took it it didnt look blurry either that or I need new eyes lol :)

I sharpened your picture using Focus Magic filter and the Unsharp Mask in PSE and got this result:

hey they look better than before!! how did u do that like where is it located at in PSE I am trying to look for it

Focus Magic is a filter you can purchase to add on to Photoshop Elements for $45; just Google for Focus Magic plug in. You can try it for 10 times for free before buying. I personally think it's very useful.

The "Unsharp Mask" is already in Photoshop Elements under the "Enhance" menu choices and I think I tried a setting of somewhere around 100.

It sounds like you are an inexperienced user of PSE (Photoshop Elements) so go to a bookstore and choose a book by Scott Kelby etc. for your version of PSE. I'm at work so I can't look through my books but if you want, send me a PM and I'll check at home tonight for you. I found that a reference book really helped me get some of this when I first started. Searching and reading on the Elements Village forum will also be a big help.

Don't give up; some of your pictures can be improved!
