We spotted this lengthy fellow from our 3rd floor balcony. He was HUUUUGGGEEE! Of course, he grows longer with each telling of the story, since I'm terrified of snakes. I don't think I'll be staying in a ground floor room any time soon!!

Thank god I wasn't there....I would of freaked. I hate snakes. :sad2:

I love snakes. As long as they arn't deadley. And Florida does have a couple type of them snakes.

It looks like a black racer . Like the one I caught a POR. They eat the mice and rats. :goodvibes

There was one of those just past the turnstiles at the entrance to Animal Kingdom one day when we visited later in the day for EMH then later on the same evening we spotted an armadillo rushing into the bushes ;)

We have stayed Ground Floor at the WL before...beautiful location. However, if my DW had seen this "fellow" :scared: ....she would have been on the top floor! :faint:

:rotfl:

In the first picture it really does look like a black racer. I've seen several of these at water parks. In the 5 years that we've lived in Florida, I've only seen 2 of them outside of our house. In the 2nd picture, it makes me not so sure. It kinda of looks like a triangular shape head, which makes me think maybe a water moccasin. Either way, I don't like snakes, they scare me.

Gosh....both those snake names sound deadly. They just better stay away from me or you'll be hearing me scream all the way to China. :rotfl:

6 year old daughter has a rat snake as a pet, his name is checkers! If she would have saw him, she would have went nuts. She would have yelled for dad and then "can we keep him" :)

Yup, WDW is build on a FL swamp. They have been seen all over WDW, even in the pools at the water parks. Do a search on "snakes" over on the theme park brd. You'll find some long threads. ;)

I don't like them either. I'd rather know they've been seen around so I can keep my eyes open rather than be "suprised".

Also ...no one had mentioned if these snakes are deadly? Tell the truth....I can handle it....remember I'm sitting down at the computer....I just wont be handling it well at Disney. I'll be doing the panic attack thing there. :rotfl2: Need my comfort zone!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :teeth: :rotfl:

and aggressive (sorry  ), but the great thing about black snakes (the same as racers? - we just call them black snakes) is that they are very territorial (sp?) and will kill any mocasins that wander into "their" territory. And black snakes are not aggressive to humans. At least we have never had a problem with them. The snake in that picture does not look fat enough to be a mocasin. I am by no means a snake expert, but I HATE mocasins (I live near water), so I LOVE black snakes!! My MIL moved here to FL from CA a few years ago and freaks out every time she sees a snake in her yard, which is frequently. Hey, this is FL - what does she expect? She could always move back :teeth: just kidding (sort of!)

Ditto ... Ditto ... Ditto !!! I once saw one at my FIL's, and my DH was several hundred yards away, in a barn that was very noisy because they were dismantling it ... and he STILL heard me scream !

Likely the black racer as a) it appears black b) moccasins tend to be brown (at least in E. Tx they were), and c) moccasins generally don't forage so far away from water (yes, I know there is water nearby, but it's not THAT close). As someone pointed out, adult moccasins also tend to be a bit heftier. Of course, if like some folks have "hinted" on here, you don't like snakes, then I guess all that doesn't matter, does it? :earsboy:
