We're at OKW right now in a one-bedroom. Our daughter and her family are in a one-bedroom right above us.

In their unit, not ours, all flooring except the bathroom, laundry and foyer has been replaced with cheap looking vinyl with a wood grain design. To us it makes the interior look like a rustic camp or bunkhouse.

We're not liking this new flooring at all. The overall look has definitely taken a big hit.

With no carpeting, we can hear much more noise coming from their unit above us. Also, they report noise within their unit is much louder. With the volume on the living room TV set very low, it can be heard quite easily in the bedroom with the door closed.

I was told today that installation of the new flooring in all units will begin in April. I was also told that bedrooms would be carpeted.

Here are two photos...

I'm sure upkeep will be easier, but, boy, it sure alters the ambiance of the place. Not a fan so far.

Considering I just removed all my carpet after my house flooded and installed Engineered wood flooring and Italian tile, I think it looks kind of nice. But it will be noiser unless they put in some area rugs.

I don't care for it in the kitchen area. Would probably be OK in the living/dining area.

That's the problem in the pics above, there's no break between the kitchen area and the living/ dining area.

I sort of like it. It makes the room look much larger. It also reminds me of the look in the Grand Villas. In fact, I thought it was a photo of a Grand Villa until I took a closer look.

I like it too. My kitchen is hard wood as well as my dining area which is connected to my living room. Sort of a "great room". I think the plan for OKW is to do these some-what minor rehabs then change the counter top and eventually the cabinets. Otherwise, the woods look odd to me. I can't see them keeping the units this way for long.

If noise is an issue, it should be reported before they go any further with the rehab. Did you contact the front desk?

That look is just awful! And the noise below will be terrible!! :scared1: It's already bad enough even with the carpeting...

If they were looking for a product with greater durability than the current carpeting, they would have been better off using ceramic tile...it would have been more in keeping with the theme of the resort. The bathrooms are all tiled as are (were) the entry halls and parts of the kitchen area. Ceramic is easy to keep clean too and stands up to repeated cleanings. If you put a damp mop with cleaning agents/sanitizers to a laminate flooring, over time (and not a long time either) it loses its finish and gets all tacky... I don't think this will turn out to be a financially wise change...It certainly isn't an esthetically pleasing change.

Just my two or three cents....;)

I like it, too. I had all the carpeting in my house removed and put in the fake wood floors (wilsonart) to help my allergies to dust and mold. It has made a huge difference for me. Every time I stay in a carpeted hotel room with drapes (I don't have those at home, either) I can tell that I don't breathe as well.

As for wear and tear, this floor will last much longer than carpeting. It holds up well to dog nails (not that there will be dogs in the villas...) and never scratches. The shine lasts forever and you just clean it with vinegar and water.

like the new look.

they had tile - it was hard and easy to slide on when wet.

like the new 'fake' wood much, much better.
I have it in my condo. and would put it anywhere - it takes abuse.
if they still have carpet in the bedroom that is still a problem for me.

also allergy to dust mites and mold which carpets have and the new floors don't.

now if they just put this stuff in the GV so every 5 to 7 years - okw members won't be paying for those floors to be redone.

So BW was 1st with the UGLY (what does it go with) lamp above the studio table--Now this at OKW
Which resort is next with a decorating faux pas????

Maybe plastic furniture in the VWL???
or....shag carpeting for Saratoga???

WOW! You guys are harsh! It doesn't look that bad. I'm saving my opinion for the finished package...but I like wood floors myself! :)

I don't particularly like it, but I'm thinking it may look better if they redo the kitchen cabinet facings so that they match better. I'm thinking they haven't totally finished the rehab in that room.

Housekeeping may be able to service the rooms faster...which is what many people wanted. Like all things Disney...be careful what you wish for.

The second photo, in particular, doesn't look very impressive. But I agree this simply cannot be the finished product. OKW villas are supposed to be getting new countertops, new upholstery in the living room, sleeper chair, new TV, new window coverings, etc. The only thing that appears to have changed in these images is the floor. Perhaps this villa needed new floor coverings and it just didn't make sense to recarpet with the refurb beginning. :confused3

I will say this--when we stayed at OKW a few years ago our rug was apparently quite dirty. A few days into the stay I noticed how the soles of my feet were dark and grimy simply from walking around the room.

The OKW Grand Villas have always had hardwood floors AFAIK, and I've never read any criticism over how the flooring fits the design of the room. Can't wait to see the finished product here.

The noise is a concern, though. popcorn::
