Photos and Commentary of World of Color Viewing Area

Question:
The show is going to be standing room only so how does this account for little ones being able to see the show? I just can't imagine how my 3 year old can stand and see the show behind 5'-6' tall adults? Any news/info on how this works?
This photo from DisneyGeek shows that the WoC viewing area has multiple levels.

Youngsters who stand in the front (next to the railing) should have an unblocked view of the WoC show, since the youngsters would be standing at a higher level than the people in front of them. (That's what the photo suggests.):

I hope that guy sitting on the bench is not trying to be first in line for WoC!!! :goodvibes

I wonder when they say standing room for 9000 if it is indeed standing. Last time I watched the fireworks in DL I was sitting on the ground and it seemed like everyone else was.

You got lucky! The past few years Disney has made everyone on Main Street stand up just prior to the fireworks starting. Wall to wall people crammed together in the most uncomfortable way possible. We now either skip the fireworks or opt for a less ideal viewing location. Often at the start of Main Street its possible to stand with a direct straight view and not be wall to wall with others.

Watched the WOC sneek peek video and I'm just not impressed with water fountain shows. Never have. Sea World had a small show many years ago, Belagio in Vegas does and didn't the Disneyland Hotel have a small one years ago? Even though WOC is much larger fountain shows just don't do it for me and the thought of being crammed with 8999 others gives me the creeps!

Maybe it's just me, do others think WOC will be a huge crowd draw for years to come like Fantasmic or WDW's Illuminations?

It's not all luck, it's a trick I know. I'd share but then everyone would do it.

Actually I've wondered if they could drain the World Shocase Lagoon at Epcot to make a WoC there. I know Illuminations is not very well liked but it's the best Epcot has ever had. It always seems to me to be a little watery or thin on content/excitment. Granted it is spread around the lagoon and has the most viewing area of any Disney show which is really nice. I think WoC could be done at much higher expense than in DL, but made to be a cirular show for Epcot.

I think the only way it compares to the Bellagio fountain is that Imagineers designed that too, but it doesn't have the Disney quality that WoC will. Compared to other Disney fountains it isn't just bigger it has a story to the movement and integrated video. Think of how a bunch of fireworks 20 years ago has morphed into Remember, the best firework show I've ever seen.

I am very disappointed with the viewing area. We were just at DCA last Sunday. There are benches, although they seem quite pointless, since there is a HUGE space in front of them where people would be standing, and you wouldn't be able to see. Unless, you stand on the bench. Which is going to be an issue with Disney, and I can see those benches going away REALLY fast once they realize that people are standing, not sitting, on them.

Second is that the "tiers" are really not that far apart, height wise. Children, even at the front of the rails, will NOT be able to see over the adults in the tier below them. The distance between tiers is about 18", maximum. My 40" child will not be able to see over the head of anyone more than 5" tall standing at the back of the tier below him...

I can envision being in here, with kids, and then one of the kids freaking out and wanting to leave, and then being TRAPPED. I can't imagine how Disney plans to allow for people to leave if necessary mid show...

I thought they were going to build a sort of concrete stadium bleacher type seating arrangement. What happened to that? That would have been a much better option.

Unfortunately, I think they screwed this up big time.

I plan to park myself near a railing somewhere else around the lagoon and watch the show from there.

It's really going to be interesting to see how that all pans out. With the problem of kids seeing over the adults standing in front of them, I can only then imagine there will be problem for adults seeing over all the kids then up on parents shoulders!

Amen..I'm short and have this kind of problem with even tall kids sometimes. I'm all for paying ridiculous amounts of money for a seat somewhere. And to the OP..I don't really see this is a 'water show'..the scope is amazing..no little pre video will do it justice. And yes..I think it will be horribly packed for years and years to come..just like Fantasmic still is.

The benches won't be in the same place you saw them during the show. The areas of each path will be roped off for walking/egress. This path is the back few feet of each tier. If you have seen the fireworks from one of the hub spokes you may have seen CM's move the benches forward from the ropes areas. I expect that it will work the same way in Paradise Park.

Have you ever been in the Haunted Mansion and in the very first walk in chamber, the "elevator"? It really doesn't mattter where you stand because you look up at the wall. The WoC only has a very tiny part that is on the surface of the water, most of it will be quite elevated. Being that we are in America people won't be standing shoulder to shoulder and front to back either. I'm sure that Disney didn't design WoC and paradise park so that the show isn't viewable.

It won't be long now that this will all become clear and first hand witness reviews are popping up along with plenty of videos on youtube.

I did not refer to it as a "water show" in this thread but did call it a water show in another thread for brevity. And that was more descriptive than comprehesive. Since I am skipping the videos all I have to compare it to is the Bellagio. :)

I think WoC crowds will be heavy for quite some time. With no real live actors, I kind of think it won't be as popular long-term as Fantasmic! is. (For instance, one of the criticisms I've heard of WDW's Fantasmic! is a larger reliance on video screens.)

But Disney will be able to change sections of WoC often to keep it fresh and exciting to local crowds and that should help quite a bit.

Nono..wasn't referring to your post..Should have been more clear. I was referring to the OP who said they didn't like 'water shows'.

I am the OP (original poster - the one who started the thread). Did you mean PP or "Previous Poster" as in someone else in this thread? :)

many of us interpret "OP" to mean original poster which in this case was Hydroguy........thus confusion ensues ;)

Well..I am just NOT doing well with DIS etiquette today. I always thought OP meant OTHER poster, not ORIGINAL Poster, so what I meant was OTHER Poster and follows is the quote I was referring to which I guess I should have just done from the beginning :)

I am not the sole authority on abbreviations :goodvibes but try to reflect the consensus here:

DLR Abbreviations List

OP - Original Post (first post in the thread - sometimes it means Original Poster or the person who started the thread)
PP - Previous Poster
So OP can have two meanings really. But unfortunately Other Poster is not one of them. ;)
