Photopass shipping costs

I have previously posted my photopass book woes but would like to reiterate my problems. I ordered two books in December 2007 with a shipping cost of $30. Disney selects the shipping company which was UPS. I did not have a choice. UPS charged a brokerage fee of $39.91 per book. Each book was shipped separately, though I'm not sure why since I ordered them at exactly the same time and they were both to be shipped to my home. When I telephoned to complain about the exorbitant cost, the option of refusing delivery was presented to me in order to avoid the brokerage fees. I would then have had to travel from Ottawa to both Windsor and Lacolle, Quebec to pick up my books since they arrived at two separate border crossings. GST was $4.29 per book.

this is why I will never order a photobook just a CD.

I paid alot for shipping but mostly duty. I believe it was another $40 that I had to pay upon delivery.

I have ordered the photopass books in 2007 and in December 2008. We did not get charged duty. The only charge was for GST, which I paid at the post office. Not sure why someone would be charged $40 plus?? I ordered 2 books at a time, both times, and I wasn't charged this.

I paid for shipping at the same time I ordered my CD. I did pay with credit card. If I had been smarter I would have pre ordered. The cost when I ordered it last time was 149 US. This was May of 08. Now the CD is 149 plus shipping, not sure what the shipping cost will be this time but I'm hoping its the same. Thankfully this time I have a code.

this is why I will never order a photobook just a CD.

Thank you once again for all of your replies. It seems it all depends upon the day and who the people are that are handling the packages along the way. Last year when I pre-ordered both the CDs and the Photobook (with their special) I didn't pay anything at all extra for duty or GST (as they paid shipping costs).

I bit the bullet tonight and purchased the pre-order of the personalized Photopass card (free shipping and free card), PhotoCD, Photo Book and Gallery CD. I will post back after receiving all on how much OOP I had to pay.

I tried to send the products to our Grandparents who are currently Snowbirding down in Florida, as I thought I could try to skip some of my hassles. I put in my info and the shipping info looked as I could send it elsewhere but when it came to payment I entered my info as the correct Canadian billing address my credit card goes to but when I hit purchase it came back as there was a problem and went to the shipping page again. I changed it back to my address in Canada and did all the rest over and sure enough it went through smoothly. I will try to call them on my morning off and see if I can have it shipped to the Florida address. Oh the things I will try to do to avoid duty. I am not as bad to have to drive to a boarder but it is still not worth the effort as it would be coming to my door. I seem to remember my other orders being sent through the regular mail as we didn't have to sign anything for it but I could be wrong.

I wish the best of luck to all those that order it shortly and I hope we all are not stuck with extra charges that are not necessary.

Thanks again, Remmy :flower3:

pre-ordered (after our trip) the photobook & cd March 2009... Even paid for extra pages in the book... They sent it by post and I wasn't charged anything for duty or even GST... Luck of the draw I guess....
