I've been searching through the forums and the rest of the Internet, but I can't seem to answer some questions about photopass. Everyone seems to have moved on to Memory Maker.

Here's what I want to do, but I'm not sure it's possible. I want to have photos taken by photopass photographers throughout the parks, then pay to download the individual photos we like after we get home. I believe those will cost me $15 each. Is that correct?

Also, since I will have a Magic Band, do I need to use a photopass card, or will the photos be linked to my MDE account by using my Magic Band? I guess I'm concerned that I'd need to prepurchase Memory Maker in order to link photos using my Magic Band. Will the MB work like an old photopass card?

And finally, what about ride photos? Will they link automatically to MDE, or do you have to prepurchase MM for that to work? Is there a way to link and store ride photos to be purchased later, or do I have to buy them immediately?

The 7DMT photo will only link to Memory Maker if you are wearing a MagicBand. The ride photo is not available to anyone without MM because there is not a photo kiosk at the end of the ride.

Guests with MM but who do not have MagicBands, will not have access to the 7DMT photo.

Yes you can still have photo's taken by the photographers and you can have them linked to your magic band without purchasing mm. Ride photo's however will need to be purchased in the regular time frame whatever that is

So (just to see if I have this right) you don't need to purchase MM if:
a) you only intend to purchase less than 10 pictures (MM pre-paid is $150. A la carte photos $15 each); and
b) you don't want or won't want a 7DMT photo.

Did I get that right?

If it matters ToT and 7DMT also give you videos if your wearing a MB and have MM but beyond that you got it.

I *think* BTMRR is also getting memory maker photos as well. (No way to link without MM)

FYI, most posts in this thread is wrong in some way. Mine train photos and ride photos are available to guests without memory maker. They just need to purchase it. If you have no magic bands but have mm you don't get those photos but if you have a magic band you can buy it. Big thunder and mansion don't have ride photos and as far as I know only bus drivers have been saying that they will get them eventually. Memory maker is now 169 not 149.

Ride photos are available after the fact for purchase but ride videos and animated magic is only available to mm guests.

I wonder when that changed for 7DMT. This is from September's Disney Blog:

Hayley-Gemma, we’re so glad you’ll be visiting next year! You may purchase Memory Maker online and use the Memory Maker card to collect all of your photos from select dining and attractions locations and all Disney PhotoPass photos including Character Experiences and Magic Shots. However, at this time, attraction videos and photos from Seven Dwarfs Mine Train are only available for Memory Maker Guests with a MagicBand.

This was true when we were there in October as well. And it was the photo people who told us they were working to get the BTMRR added and it was in beta testing on certain days....

It would be great if they linked the photos to everyone's bands but that certainly not how it was originally working.

When the cd was discontinued on November third, ride photos were made available online without purchase. At that point and since then mine train photos have been available for purchase to anyone with a magic band.

As far as I know, they've never tested big thunder photos. At this point, that's as credible as Hannah Montana becoming the new rock n roller coaster artist.

I just wanted to follow up on this since there seems to be some conflicting, or, at the very least, outdated information.

Everyone seemed to be in agreement that a magic band would function just like a photo pass card even without purchasing Memory Maker, and that is true.

Now, at the end of the rides, they have Mickey head readers under the ride photos with instructions that only show park ticket cards (i.e. not magic bands with long-range RFID). All ride photos are automatically linked to your account through your magic band without any additional input. When I tested this on space mountain, which we rode twice, i scanned my band under the picture once and didn't scan the second time. The first picture is linked to my account twice, and the second is there, too. So, there seems to be no need to scan your magic band. Ride photos seem to be available for individual purchase through the photo pass site.

Now, specifically 7DMT: both the photos and video were automatically linked to my account and show up in the photo pass site for individual purchase.

So, in summary, everything seems to just work like you would hope without the need for any intervention. I'm actually quite impressed with Disney's IT department on this one.

Every time I use FP+ on a ride that has photos the photo from the ride gets linked to my Magic Band. Then a few days later I get an email telling me my photos are about to expire. I never asked for them, I never bought one but still I get endless spam about my photos expiring. I cannot find a way to shut the spam down and it is getting annoying. Does anyone know how to stop Disney spam?
