Photography options for intimate brides

I am looking into the intimate wedding and was wondering if it was possible to get more than 20 pics? Or if it would be better to go for an outside vendor? Any ideas?

The Disney photographer will take much more than just 20 pics (usually closer to 70-80).

The thing with the package is you only get 20 in the album that is included.

You have a couple of options about this:

The first one (and the one I did, and recommend, if you decide to use Disney Photography) is to PRE-purchase your proofs. It will cost you about $250 up front, but it's worth it. You can also wait three years and purchase the Hi-Res CD from Disney for about $100 (check the price, it may have gone up) and then you can make all the reprints you want, where ever you want.

The second option is to purchase the Hi-Res CD at the time of your wedding, at a cost of about $1000. Then you can reprint all your images.

Many brides consider the outside vendor to be more cost effective. I did not use an outside vendor because it's an additional cost, over and above what is included in Disney's price, and I was on a very strict budget. But, for many, the expense was well worth it! Randy Chapman comes highly recommended, as do a few others.

When all is said and done, I will have paid about $300 for my wedding pictures, and that is reasonable to me. Yes, I have to wait three years, but I know my pictures are safe (Disney isn't going out of business anytime soon) and I am patient! :teeth: And Disney did a fantastic job for me!

Of course, there are other factors. With Disney, you cannot pick a photographer. You can make a list of specific pictures you want, but there is no guarantee that the photographers style will match yours, or what you desire for your wedding. I think Disney tries to accommodate this, if you tell them up front, but, they just can't guarantee a specific photographer.

Hope that helps!!

Thanks hiwaygal!!! You just made my life much easier!

Well! :yay:

I'm so happy I could help! :thumbsup2

I went with an outisde photographer- I'm so happy I did. However, I "traded" my Disney photo package (included) for a Honeymoon photo session- and my DH was sweaty and miserable in the Honeymoon pictures!! I wish I kept the Disney photographer for the wedding *and* went with an outside photographer. Oh well, you live, you learn.

Best of luck to you!!

The biggest deciding factor for me to hire an outside photographer is being able to get the hi res CD with ALL the images on it. Disney Photography will charge quite a bit of money over and above what is included in the package for the rights to the hi res images (I think $995... someone please correct me if I'm wrong). Whereas for roughly half that amount, you can hire out an outside vendor, get many more pictures, for a longer time and get the hi res CD.

For me, knowing that I will have all the images and the rights to them is worth hiring out. We got a photography credit for a honeymoon shoot at Epcot instead. (MK is no additional charge, all other parks is an additional $50.)

Good luck with your decision!

Like Starseed I chose to use an outside vendor (Randy Chapman) because of the hi-res CD that was available. I couldn't imagine paying $1000 for the Disney hi-res CD of the photos, nor could I think of waiting 3 years for the price to come down. I know that I want a lot of printed pictures and that buying the proofs wouldn't be enough to "tide me over".

The value that Randy gives to Intimate brides (3 hours of coverage, all proofs in an album, the rights to the his-res CD) was fabulous for the price. And I was already looking into the Honeymoon Shoot, so the fact that I could "trade in" my Disney photo credit was perfect.

I think it just depends on what is really important to you....good luck deciding!

I personally couldn't recommend Randy highly enough.
He is an absolutely superb photographer and his basic coverage gives you such a great scope of options.
We used him at our Intimate Wedding and were truly delighted with what we received, all delivered before we flew home (less than a week - incredible).

I have since developed a professional relationship with Randy and email him occasionally for guidance or advice and he is just such a nice guy and has great experience of Disney Weddings.

We also chose Randy as our photographer. For the price, you really can't beat his packages. Plus, we're going to use the credit by not using the Disney photographer and apply it to an MK or Epcot shoot.

When I priced out the pictures I wanted with disney it was almost $1000. By using Taz for the wedding and getting the MK honeymoon photos instead I get way more pictures and save about $500. To me it was definitely worth it.

Do Disney really charge 1000 bucks for the cd with pictures of YOU on it??
We married at the wedding pavillion in October and received an album with 20 pictures in it, AND a cd with all the other pictures the guy took FREE (Disney photographer), i think that was because we live outside the US,
but if they can supply us here in Scotland with a disk of the originals free, why cant they supply everyone with their own pics? :confused3

I posted about this on here a short while ago and was told that this no longer happens for UK brides. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they do it for our MK photoshoot, but we've booked Randy for our VR just in case they don't! I'm a scrapbooker and photo-holic so know I just had to have the disc, but no way could I afford $1,000 for it, so Randy get our business.

My understanding was that the UK brides do(did?) get the hi res CD's as part of the Disney package because shipping reprints to the UK costs way too much so they don't get many requests for reprints. (The primary reason Disney keeps the CD's isso they can make money from the reprints.)

I guess they have changed that thinking...

Even though I did not have an intimate, I have to echo everyone's love of Randy's photos. They are AMAZING and he is doing new types of shots. As I tell Leif every week. Our family photos will be taken by Randy. He is totally worth it and to own the high res photos is great!

what kind of new shots is he doing? I'm trying to keep a bit of a list of 'must-have' shots, so might want to add these to it.
