Hi folks. Can anyone please recommend a photo magazine that they like. Something that would appeal to newbies just starting out in the dslr world. Thanks!

I enjoy Popular Photography when I can get my hands on a copy. For some reason it is hard to find around here. I'll have to go online here and get a subscription.

Andy,
would that be a good one for a S2IS owner as well, it's not dslr, but I need work on my manual stuff!? What about PCPhoto or Outdoor Photographer? Our school just started its yearly magazine drive and I'm trying to choose between the three they give for selections! They dont' give a review of the mags, just a small blurb. :) TIA!

Honestly, I'm not sure about that. I liked it a bunch when I have had the rare opportunity to get a copy, but I haven't seen one for awhile. I'm sure others on this board could answer this question a bit better than I can. I have not seen the other 2 that you mention. That is a great idea to order them from the school. I'll wait for that this year at our schools and order from them!

Here's a GREAT website for owners of the S2, S3, and S5!!! Tons of advice on techniques, accessories, etc...

I get both Shutterubug and Popular photo, both would be fine for P&S users wishing to learn more.

I find it funny that people like Shutterbug. The one issue that I happened to read, I wasn't impressed. I thought that it was mainly one huge advertisement as each page seemed to be another ad for something. All the photo mags seem to have alot of ads in the back, but I thought this one in particular was just loaded front to back with them.

Maybe I should try it again.

I have a subscription to Popular Photography. My photo mag preferences though are the UK mags, Practical Photography, Digital Camera World and Digital SLR User. Normally I can find them at Barns & Noble. Though when I went last week they didn't have Practical Photography. I did pick up a copy of Digital SLR user. I really just should get a subsciption to Practical Photography. Individual copies in the US go for about $10.

I have to agree with these recommendations - I love all three of them though they are very expensive compared to US mags here in the US. Digital Camera World is available as an e-mag which makes it quite a bit less expensive than the others. The ones on the stand usually come with DVDs of extras which can be fun too.

Yup - I like Kyle's recommendations too, they're just too spendy for me. Those are the ones I read in the bookstore. :rolleyes1

Have you checked your local library - they often have copies that you can check out!:thumbsup2

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I'm planning to order the Popular Photography, as it's on the list of options from the magazine drive. I need to look for the others, I don't think they were listed, but that doesn't mean it's not available! I just don't want to be reading something that is way over my head and not applicable to my current camera. I also plan to check the link for more info on the S2IS sight - thank you SrisonS!

thanks for all the replys. I think I may go with Popular Photography.
