I will take a different approach and recommend Ansel Adams "The Negative" and "The Camera". Written about 30 years ago they of course do not deal with anything digital but they deal very effectively with light and cameras, more so than any other book I have read.
If you read and understand these you will have no problem with camera settings and exposure, ever!
You need to modernize "The Negative" and re-release it as "The RAW file".
yeah this one mentions rule of thirds but says it's a guideline unlike the normal dogmatic view i've seen elsewhere.

I told him no no no, that's just cutting it waaaaay too close for me, but he insisted I will get the best fare (the best out there right now is $228 round-trip and he said I can probably get about $180 in September if gas prices don't skyrocket).

They include the first checked bag AND a full can of Diet Coke...how much better can you get??
