Pea-n-Me and any other judges out there. For the Aussies wanting to play and take photographs, there are some items on the list that are purely only found in America. Items like Arlington Cemetery cannot be disputed because there is only one Arlington Cemetery. I accept that this is one of those things and am happy to abide by the rules.
But, there is one item (at least

) on the list that you might put in this "only found in America" that I would like for you to consider the Australian equivalent.
This item is Capital Dome. I am aware that when you created this list, you may have been thinking about Capital Dome - the building in Washington D.C. But, if you google any state capital city, the building that contains the official seat of government (usually domed) is also called 'Capital Dome'. For example, the California Capital Dome in Sacramento.
I have been doing some research on the equivalent "Capital Dome" in Australia. To qualify for this term, I believe that the item submitted needed to meet the following criteria:
Capital: A town or city that is the official seat of government in a political entity, such as a state or nation.
Dome: A vaulted roof having a circular, polygonal, or elliptical base and a generally hemispherical or semispherical shape.

And if this does not meet with the definition of Capital Dome, I submit this as my Historic Piece (and possibly rivalling War and Peace in length

).
The first opening of the Federal Commonwealth Parliament of Australia was held on 9 May 1901. The Royal Exhibition Building hosted this opening for the then 6 colonies (now States) of Australia:
You will note that this building includes a Dome.
After the opening, the newly formed Australian Government was located out of the Victorian Parliament House in Melbourne, from 1901 to 1927. Therefore establishing Melbourne as the official seat of government in a political entity, for both Federal and State governments.
Historical* - Victorian Parliament House
Lithographs for the original plans for this Victorian Parliament House shows that a dome was proposed but never built. (Reference:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parliament_House,_Melbourne).
Whilst the Australian Government was located at the Victorian Parliament House, the Victorian Government moved to the Royal Exhibition Building and occupied the West Wing. The West Wing in this photo is the second west wing to be built.

The Australian Government then moved to Canberra, ACT. Two buildings have been used by the Australian Government in Canberra - I can find no reference that either building had plans to include a dome.
I have also researched all the other Australian State Parliament Houses. Queensland Parliament House contains a square dome; South Australia also planned to build a dome as part of their building but it was never built. I could not find any reference of a dome for any of the other states.
On May 9, 2001, the Royal Exhibition Building once again hosted a special sitting of Australian Parliament to mark the centenary of Federation for this country. This means that this building had been used by the Federal Government in this century; making it current for this item.
I therefore submit that this Royal Exhibition Building dome qualifies under the definition of "Capital Dome".
Capital Dome - Royal Exhibition Building, Australia*

NOTE: I am submitting the claim for Historical on the Victorian Parliament Building; Sunset for the Western View of the Royal Exhibition Building; and for Capital Dome, if accepted (a total of 6 points).
p.s. I would appreciate if you could provide a ruling before the 10th July...there is another Aussie who may well take a different perspective of "Capital Dome" if this is allowed. Thanks in advance.
p.p.s. I have learnt HEAPS in this research and have had so much FUN! Thanks!
