I seem to rememeber lots of flashes last year. I don't remember them asking, no flashes.

IF you are using a film camera, get 800 or 1000 speed film and all should be well.

If you have a digital, open the shutter as wide as it will go.

If I can find them, I'll post the pictures I took last year.

We have a digital DVD video camera now, with low light. I can't wait to try the horseman!

I attended the party last year and was using my Sony DVD Cam, and a CM come up to me and requested that I turn the light off during the parade.

I'm so proud of this shot!!! This is from 9-15.

That is a great shot - I failed horribly on Friday. Believe it or not I FORGOT about him, and DD and I were sitting up on the train station platform to watch the last parade - I was just too far away and afraid to zoom in too close not knowing exactly how he would take the corner! We are going back on 10/12, and I am going to attempt it again.

It was cool though - we could see and hear him coming all the way up Main Street, and all the way into the stable! I love the sound of his hooves!

Can I ask what the setting were on your camera for the photo?

I'm embarrassed to admit it, but I just recently got the Canon Rebel and I'm still working on the automatic setting... you know, the green square setting where the camera does all the work. :rotfl:

It's a great picture.

tinkwannabe, I love this picture--makes me want to go for Halloween.

He's fast, be ready, set camera for night shots cause its dark and he comes full gallop. We had enough time just to catch a glimpse, no shot taken.

That is a terrific pic, probably the best one I've seen of him! We have one from 9/15, but it was pouring out so it looks all distorted...I'll try to post it here later.

Tinkwannabe, great picture! Unfortunately I was filming Headless and didn't manage to get a photo of him (what with trying to keep my cameras dry, etc.)

I did get some pix of the parade though, and no one said anything about the flash. I had my Kodak digital on sports setting, auto focus. Some of the pix came out a little dark or slightly blurry but Adobe Photoshop took care of most of those problems.

I've posted some of my parade pix at http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=14709338#post14709338 if anyone would like to see them. As well as LTT dinner.

Once again, great picture! :goodvibes

I had plenty of time to prepare for him but TOTALLY forgot about NIGHTSHOTS!- we were up on the train station platform and saw him come all the way down Main St. I was afraid to zoom into much on him from up above as I was not sure how he would come around the curve - he was slower at that point. There's alway 10/12!!!!

Nice photo! Last year, Dh and I were Grand Marshalls of the parade and I was so worried that I wouldn't get to see the headless horseman's ride. I was "lamenting" to the driver of our car as we sat backstage waiting for the parade to start and she looks right past me and goes "you mean HIM?". I turned around and there he was practically breathing down my neck! I was so thrilled, but couldn't grab my camera in time as he wheeled off and galloped out on the parade route...with that poor Cm with a pooper scooper scurrying behind him!

An another note, that is some hardware they've got in that horse's mouth. I feel bad for him. Galloping on slippery pavement while thousands of costumed people scream and shout and flash photos at you...and then a freaky headless guy spurring you on while you're wearing a gag bit. That's one saintly horse!

Martha-I hope you get that shot, I bet you will! I'll think of you that day, it is my b-day so that's gotta bring some pixie dust from somewhere, right? LOL! :wizard:
