Photographing Pets

I probably shouldn't post this under the "Photographing Pets" thread but this is what I found on Thursday morning......

I was at work and this little guy was outside in the rain Thursday morning yelling at 2am. I tried to capture him and of course he ran. He later followed me to my truck and I was lucky enough to catch him and kept him in my backpack until my wife could bring me the pet carrier. That morning we had approx. 8 inches of rain with lots of thunder and lightening. The odd thing is there are no homes within 3 miles of my warehouse. He has no fleas, very sharp little claws, using the litter box, and dosen't smell like he's been out in the wild. He has little kitty breath. He also eats and drinks like a little piggy!!!

He's at our house and we are trying to find him a good home.

Adorable!! I think you have found a "good home" for him, if you know what I mean ;) I volunteer on the weekends at an animal recsue and have taken in 4 different kittens all still needing to be fed with a bottle and "stimulated" to use the bathroom (you don't want to know :scared1:).

You know how many I was able to "find a good home" for out of those 4?.............1.

The other three we added to our current pets, so now we're up to 6 cats and 2 dogs. :rotfl:

My big brown stinker (that sounds really gross), Rocky. :lmao:

He was limping a little a few weeks ago, so we have been keeping him quiet in hopes that whatever happened to his leg, it'll fix itself. So far, so good---I think starting next week we'll start letting him run around again. This is him being disappointed that we aren't out on a walk or playing fetch.

Shhhh! Don't encourage him!

Our Arabella came from a rescue where they had to bottle feed her. She has odd mannerisms now - you can tell she was raised away from Mama Cat. I called the rescue coordinator but they don't have any foster slots open right now. This little black one does fine for himself - eating, drinking, using his litter. He is very playful. He saw himself in the mirror this morning and hissed. :rotfl2:

My concerns are these:
The leasing office will decide to play hard ball and make us get rid of a cat or two. OR the introduction of this little male will irk one or both females into not using their litter boxes. I am also not a fan of neutering and vaccinating a cat we won't be keeping (from a financial standpoint), and time is slipping away.

Can't offer any opinions on the leasing office situation, but I can say that I have been in the "introduce a new cat to the family" situation loads of times now, and each time we haven't had any problems (with male or female cats). Mostly, if cats don't like eachother---they just stay away from eachother and don't bother even acknowledging the other exists.

For the neutering situation, neutering is a must, but usually it doesn't need to be done until about 6 months and it looks like your little guy is probably only about 2 months (or so). Since it doesn't seem you have any male cats---at least take solice in the fact that neutering is much less expensive than spaying usually, since it's just a little snip. You can also google "low cost spay/neuter clinic" or something for your area and you should be able to get it done for much less expensive than at a regular vet's office.

Good luck whatever you choose. I think adoption or keeping it for yourselves would both be good options. Taking it in and giving it a nice home for now is all that matters---and you guys deserve a pat on the back for doing so! :thumbsup2

The vet estimates him to be about 8 weeks. He said we will need to start his vaccines soon, and schedule him to be neutered. We are BIG fans of spay/neuter as early as possible. And our vet is a good guy - he spayed our girls at a very reasonable cost. I am just certain that the more time/money/effort we invest will make DH and DS less likely to relinquish the cat if we DO find another home for him.

I think that is kind of the pitfall of rescuing strays. If you aren't in a position to keep them yourself, you likely won't have many viable options. :confused3

Maybe give a local shelter a call? A cat found us last year. Showed up in our yard one night all skinny. I started feeding him outside- eventually DH brought him inside. He has since taken over my bed! Anyway- I called the animal shelter to see if they'd be willing to neuter him for the cost of adoption- $75 vs the $200+ our vet wanted. The guy said as long as you don't leave him here! We are full. He makes kitty #5 in my house. Our 9 y.o male hated him when he was living under our porch. He'd fight with the poor guy- I'd find fur all over the yard. The stray had no shot outside with our Reebok. Franklin(the stray) weighed under 5lbs when he showed up- Reebok is 14lbs. When DH brought Frank inside the fighting stopped right away. I guess Reebok realized he was family now, before he was an intruder. Our other 3 cats(2 females and 1 male) weren't phased a bit by the new guy.
Good luck!

Thanks!
I am sure of he stays we will just have him neutered at the vet's office. We'll be there to have him vaccinated anyhow.

obm, jsg, good luck with the kitty. He's a sweetie. :lovestruc

I posted here last year, I found a mama cat and her kitties in the middle of winter living under our shed. Had a tough time placing them as all no-kill shelters were maxxed out. Finally found a "feral cat lady" in our area who places, well, feral cats (though mama wasn't). Maybe you have a cat person like this in your area somewhere? Tough dilemma with the apartment situation. She sure looks like a keeper. Thanks for taking her in. :flower3:

my sister use to work for a company that had its "head office" on a farm. One day my sister was old by the owner that he was going to drown the litter of kittens:eek::eek:
Needless to say her sister gave this guy a tongue lashing. Next thing we know we are raising 4 adorable kittens. In the end we found home for 2 and we kept2!!

OMG!!! I like to believe that kind of stuff doesn't really happen in the world :scared1::scared1:

We have always ended up with strays, I had 4 of them at one point and lost them all one by one over the last few years. We thought we had a new addition with a cute little black and white kitty. She showed up and hung around in the yard for about a week. I was putting food out for her, she would nuzzle up when I was out gardening and one day walked in the house behind me. Then one day, she was gone. In my mind, she just went home to wherever she came from and I'll leave it at that :cloud9:

I just came across this and thought I would share. This was my little baby Lucky (a Scottie) a few days after he came home.

This was a few months later, he was probably 8 months or so

The vet gave us the name of a rescue group, but I think DH and DS consider him already "rescued". :rolleyes1

There is a no-kill shelter in the next city, but I am not sure if they would take a kitten from non-residents of that city (if that makes sense).

I don't mind "fostering" the kitty for a bit, but like the vet said, if he gets much older we will be stuck with him. I phoned our pet sitter just in case she might know someone who is looking for a kitty.

(I am NOT the photographer in our family. I took this with my point & shoot. No comments on my lack of photographic ability, please.)

Jonas wants a beer.....

Sorry buddy...12 weeks old, can't have a beer...;)

Here are two of my cats...

I wanted to take a picture of them sleeping, but I bumped the bed on the way in so they woke up...

No worries though.....a second later they were right back to sleep...
