Photographing Pets

:rotfl: :lmao: Your window looks just like our glass front door. Everyday our chocolate lab Rocky sits and waits for my DH to come home and when the sun shines in mid-day, all you can see are nose smudges and slobber.

Gotta love em.

Yeah, it's an uphill battle, trying to clean the dog level windows in the house. :)

New pup.

What a cute baby chocolate! Here's mine - a middle-aged girl very tired (but very happy!) after a day of swimming last week. She can barely keep her eyes open! Yes, we battle the nose prints as well, what's with labs and having to have their noses pressed right up against the glass? Can't be very comfortable!

Well I was playing around with low light photography at home, just for the heck of it - It was late afternoon, I was just shooting a hawk in my backyard, and swapped out the big bird lens for a small 50mm F1.7 prime that I usually put on the camera when I put it away. I saw my cat Mickey lying on the carpet playing with a toy, and decided the dark room and low light would be fun for some wide-open high ISO shots.

The cat is an adopted stray I took in back in June, and she was with me through December, then went outside and didn't come back...I figured her for gone, until she showed up one night a month later...I've since had her spayed, got all the shots, and she's now an indoor cat, loving life! The only other photos I had of her were from many months ago, so it was nice to get some updated shots too.

I dialed to A priority, set the aperture to F1.7, cranked the ISO to 1600, and got down on the floor:

I got her a collapsable tube to play around in which she loves...here she is loooking through a side hole as I was shooting through the end hole:

After running through, she came out the end hole:

The camera still gets her attention - this reflecting glass thing pointing at her and making clicking noises!:

Here's a very close crop of that last shot - not bad for ISO1600:

So that's my cat!

So that's my cat!

Adorable---I love that first shot. I have 6 cats (although it's one of our dogs that's named Mickey) and have the same crinkle tube (although ours are collapsible cubes rather than tubes). They go NUTS over them. We've gone through about 4 so far, they've just been completely trampled and ripped up. Throw in a catnip mouse and those cats are gone in there for hours. :goodvibes

Zackiedawg I LOVE the pics!! thanks for sharing!!!

Zackiedwag- your new kitty looks a lot like our newest kitty. Franklin. He showed up on our doorstep last summer.

Everybody has great lookin' dogs & cats! I got a chuckle over the nose prints on the glass from deletedpenguin's lab... we too have the same problem. Front door, back door, car windows...

This is my perpetually happy guy:

Thanks all for the compliments - I'll tell Mickey she's been getting compliments.

Nice labs too - nice to see so many! I am actually on my first cat (since it adopted me!), and was a dog owner previously. I had a black lab named Zack (hence my screenname!) who lived to the ripe old age of 14 before passing - that was 11 years ago and I never could bring myself to get another after him.

I also feed and watch over 14 squirrels, many blue jays, and a green iguana who all live in my yard and get fed daily. They were never around when Zack was here...and they're all very happy Mickey is an indoor cat now!

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooo Cute.......I want one....lol
