He really is just photogenic, but I guess there are is one thing that might help. To add life to the image, the eyes really do need a little sparkle or catchlight. Without catchlights, your subject will usually look dull or lifeless. We are programmed to look straight at the eyes...

To get the catchlights without using direct flash (which creates even bigger problems because of the flat lighting) I usually bounce the flash of the ceiling. I find that easier than carrying around a big softbox!

Thank you! We love her! I can't believe someone didn't want her. Her info said that her owners couldn't "cope" with her. I still don't know what they couldn't cope with. I adopted the sweetest puppy!
