Hi everybody!
Welcome to my hot off the presses Dining Review of our June trip to Disney World! We went in celebration of my parent's 40th Wedding Anniversary. We were there June 9 -14, 2013!

It was an epic week where pixie dust was flying all around us! :tinker:

Even though our last name is Prince, we were treated like kings everywhere we went!

Oh, and did I mention, we ATE like kings too!

Let's introduce our cast of characters!

Me (Elyse) and my brother. I'm not going to give anyone cute Disney names because I would get confused and forget who's who!

The true stars of the show, Mom and Dad. Their 40 year marriage has been an example to all who has known them. They have a deep love for each other that is rare and precious. I was so happy they were treated so well everywhere they went at WDW. It was magical!

And without further adieu, on with the food!

We arrived at the world around noon on Sunday. We were staying at Old Key West (a first for us), and it was GORGEOUS! So rather than sit around and wait for our room to get ready, we hopped on the boat to DTD for our first meal of the trip!

Side note: We did online check-in and not only did we get a room right where we wanted one, but they texted us before the boat even got to DTD to tell us our room was ready! Yay!

Wolfgang Puck's Cafe (L)
Downtown Disney

So WGP Cafe doesn't get a lot of love here on the boards. And I am totally baffled as to why! I have gone to WGP Cafe for my last 3 trips and EVERY time we have had a fabulous meal. In fact, it is usually at the top of our list of great restaurants! So if you have easy access to DTD like us and want a table service, give WGP Cafe a try!

We arrived about a half hour before our reservation, but they seated us right away. You don't really need a reservation, but I like having all of them set before I leave. Just so you know, WGP Cafe has a smaller lunch menu than the dinner menu.

Our server was nice but it was a slow service. Luckily, we didn't have anywhere to be, but of our week at the World, this was one of our slower services (Be Our Guest being the slowest). But I will say it now, we never had bad service.

First they brought out the bread. This isn't the best bread basket I've had. I actually like the flat crispy option the best. The other bread is just okay and not served warm.

Appetizers

Mom and Dad both ordered the crab cakes. They liked them a lot. I tried to warn them not to eat their whole appetizer since we had two more courses coming, but I failed!
Crab Cake - with marinated tomatos and remoulade $15.95

WGP01 by elyse43230, on Flickr

Bro ordered the tortilla soup. I have had this in the past the LOVE it. It's sort of like a chili consistency but has a nice spice to it. I just love that goat cheese in the middle that mellows out the heat!
Tortilla Soup - With avocados, tortilla strips and cilantro $7.95

WGP02 by elyse43230, on Flickr

I ordered the bruschetta. LOVED this, too! One unique thing about this bruschetta is that the bread is thick and soft, not crispy. But it really worked! I again loved the goat cheese, tomato and the pesto sauce. I have two the these puppies! Can't take my own advice about saving room!
Tomato Bruschetta - Goat cheese, pesto, basil, shaved parmesan $9.95

Entrees

Dad, Mom, AND Bro all got the bacon-wrapped meatloaf. My mom said it was the best meatloaf she ever had! They all liked it, but I must say I was little irked they all ordered the same thing! Come on people!
Bacon Wrapped Meatloaf - mashed potatoes, port wine sauce and crispy onion rings

WGP04 by elyse43230, on Flickr

I ordered the margherita pizza. Yes, I ordered the same thing last year, but I just love it so much! The crust is thin and the sauce is actually on the top. Very light. Everyone had a slice and liked it too!
Traditional Margherita - Fresh tomatoes, mozzarella, basil $13.95

WGP05 by elyse43230, on Flickr

Desserts

Mom and Dad both ordered the carrot cake. They both said it was the best carrot cake they ever had! My mom loved the candied pecans and our waiter brought her more in a cup on the side! So nice!
Classic Carrot Cake - Homemade cream cheese icing with candied pecans $7.95

WGP06 by elyse43230, on Flickr

My brother ordered the Key Lime pie. We actually split our two desserts, because I would have ordered this if he didn't! This is the BEST key lime pie on property, no doubt, hands down. I don't care what anyone says! So tart and delicious! My brother agreed it was the best dessert at the table!
Florida Key Lime Pie - Swiss meringue with a buttery graham cracker crust $7.95

WGP07 by elyse43230, on Flickr

I ordered the brownie sundae. I should have ordered another Key Lime pie. This wasn't very good. The brownies (yes, there are TWO, with ice cream in the middle covered with whipped cream) were dry and had that crusty edge I don't like. Just not worth it when they have better options!

Now my parents did a PATHETIC job of taking pictures at Fulton's, so I only have a picture of their main course. But Kona for dinner, just wait for that, baby! Let's just say, my brother and I had a grand ol' time!

Thanks for your review! The crab, &carrot cake look amazing. I make bacon wrapped meatloaf at home so wonder how theirs compares to mine?! We are going to definitely try this place next trip :thumbsup2

Joining in!!! Can't Wait for more

Looking forward to more reviews. You have a great line up of restaurants.

Fulton's Crab House
Downtown Disney

Our first night of our vacation, my parent's separated from my brother and me in order to have a romantic, seafood dinner together. My brother and I aren't huge fans of seafood (what I can eat is very limited), so while they went to Fulton's Crab House at DTD, my brother and went to Kona Cafe (more on that later).

My parents reported that when they arrived, they were seated at a table right by the water. They loved their view so much! They said their waiter was fantastic and they had an excellent meal all around!

My parents were not good boy and girls and only took two pictures of their entrees! So I'm very sorry I don't have more from Fulton's!

For appetizers, Dad got the lobster bisque and Mom got the New England Clam Chowder. They said both were good. NO PICS. :worried:

For their entree, they both got the Alaska King Crab. This seemed to have came with corn and potatoes. They said it was DELICIOUS, and they were so upset that they were so full, because they each had to leave a whole crab leg uneaten!
Alaska King Crab - One pound, steamed $58

Here's Dad digging in!

Fultons01 by elyse43230, on Flickr

For Dessert, Mom and Dad were so full, they each got Root Beer Floats. NO PICS. Apparently their Root Beer floats were really good because they have IBC Root Beer at Fulton's.

They had a wonderful time, and they said they would recommend Fulton's!

Kona Cafe (D)

While my parents dined at Fulton's Crab House (previous post on that!), my brother and I hopped on the monorail from the MK over to Kona Cafe for dinner. I have only been there for breakfast (which I love), and I read so many great reviews on Kona for dinner, I had to try it!

When we arrived, we were about 10 minutes early for our reservation, so they gave us a pager. I was so eager to order the famous Lapu Lapu, I ran over the the Tambu Lounge and ordered one for me and one for Bro!

Lapu Lapu ($13ish). So yummy! I would not describe these as tasting strong, (very fruity) but they definitely are strong! Bro and I planned to have two rounds of drinks at dinner, but we were pretty done after one of these!

KonaD00 by elyse43230, on Flickr

Lapu Lapu on the inside (I was always curious about what was inside, so I took one for you all!)

KonaD01 by elyse43230, on Flickr

We were seated in a few minutes (before our drinks were even done!). Our waitress was perfectly nice, but service was slow. It was one of our longer meals. Again, we weren't in a rush for anywhere so it was no big deal. We had a blast!

One of the keys to speeding up service on the DxDP is always ordering your appetizer and entree together.

First she brought out our bread course. YUMMY! It was warm and HUGE! My brother thought it was fun/weird to just rip a hunk off this large loaf, but we ate over half of it. I never butter my bread (I'm a purist), but I dipped a little into the butter and it was so good! It was sweet and added a new dimension to the bread! :thumbsup2

Appetizers

Bro ordered the pot stickers. Pot stickers are one of my brother's favorite foods. These were his favorite pot stickers he had at WDW (he tried a few). He just loved them! Described them as being soft with a great flavor.
Pork Pot Stickers - wok-seared pork and vegetable dumplings with creamy ginger-soy sauce $7.49

KonaD03 by elyse43230, on Flickr

I ordered the fried rock shrimp. These were the size of popcorn shrimp, but the coating was so flavorful and had just enough spice! I actually liked the green thingys (pea pods?) in there too! I didn't try the sauce (again, I'm a purist). You probably got 15-20 shrimp so this could easily be an entree!
Fried Rock Shrimp - with Passion Fruit-mustard sauce $14.99

KonaD04 by elyse43230, on Flickr

Entrees

Bro ordered the duck. Again, he really liked it. I had duck a few times myself during this trip, and he kept saying that the Kona duck was better no matter what I ordered!
Pan Seared Duck Breast - served with mung, adzuki and cranberry beans with chorizo sausage and spinach in a tamarind gastrique $21.99rs.N

KonaD05 by elyse43230, on Flickr

I got the noodles with chicken. I was so full (and buzzed!) that I just couldn't eat very much of this! It had a sweeter flavor, so I wasn't crazy about it. I prefer the flavor a lo mein to this.
Pan Asian Noodles - with Yakisoba noodles, wok-seared vegetables and your choice of Chicken or Tofu in ginger-garlic sauce $17.99 or with shrimp $18.99

KonaD06 by elyse43230, on Flickr

Desserts

Bro ordered the creme brulee. He ate most of this and really loved it. He loves banana desserts. I thought it was good, but creme brulee is just not my thing, really. The brulee'd banana is really interesting!
Banana-Chocolate Creme Brulee - with a chocolate spiral $5.99

KonaD07 by elyse43230, on Flickr

I ordered the pineapple upside down cake. Great choice! Moist, delicious cake, awesome sauce and topped with a juicy pineapple. My brother loved this too!
Pineapple Upside Down Cake - with Lemongrass and Caramel Sauces $5.99

KonaD08 by elyse43230, on Flickr

Bonus! With dessert, we ordered their trio of Godiva chocolate liqueurs! Each had a strawberry "shooter" on top. You injected the liqueur into the strawberry then ate it all in one bite with the alcohol inside! We had so much fun with these and people around us were entertained as well!
From Left to Right: Chocolate (the best), White Chocolate, Caramel

Kona Cafe was amazing. It's a must do!

Here is my ode to OKW! We had an AH-MAZE-ING 2 Bedroom villa at OKW. I don't know about y'all but after staying in a villa, how in the world do you ever stay in regular hotel room again?

We stopped by the Gurgling Suitcase to grab a round of these puppies:

Turtle Krawl (Tastes as good as it looks!)

Turtle Krawl by elyse43230, on Flickr

I found a recipe here
1/2 oz Castillo rum
1/2 oz Bacardi Silver rum
1/2 oz Malibu rum
1/2 oz Myers dark rum
Splash Grenadine
Splash Key lime juice
Equal parts orange juice and pineapple juice

Awesome pics of Kona,Fulton's & the drinks! Those kona desserts look AMAZING but I have a huge sweet tooth. I've only been there for bfast too. :) Maybe next trip......:thumbsup2

Great reviews and pix so far!

I don't know why more people don't love WPC. We at there for the first time the last year we had the reg. DDP. This was in 2009. We ended up having 3 meals there that trip. All of them were good, some were very good. :goodvibes And the service was great. We had 2 dinners and 1 lunch there. When we had lunch there the place was less than 1/2 full. I don't get it either. :confused3

We love (and miss) Kona too. Those shooters look cool!

That Turtle Krawl looks so good. I'm going to have to make a rum run now. Thanks for posting a recipe!

Hi! I'm in. We just returned from our trip, too, and must have missed you by a few days. We ate at Kona on our first night and also had really slow service. Good, but definitely on the slower end of the spectrum.

Hard to believe, but I turned down a Lapu Lapu before our dinner and now am kicking myself for not trying it. My only Disney regrets are food related! :thumbsup2

Great start!

Very happy anniversary to your parents. They look so young! You and your brother also look very young, so it must be good genes. Loving the dining report. Keep it coming. :thumbsup2

Your parents certainly need educating on remembering to take pictures for the dining report. I hope you chastised them ;)

What a great start to your trip. We also love WPC and have had a couple of really great meals there. I agree about the key lime pie, it is pretty awesome. Although Olivia's at OKW has a pretty good key lime pie too :thumbsup2

As an aside, I get exactly what you are saying about the 2-bed villas. The ones at OKW are particularly great, they are huge.

Loving your reviews so far, can't wait for more.

Great beginning to your review! Can't wait to read more...live those couple of pics from Fulton's. We have an ADR there in September but I keep rethinking that one...after those pics, I just may keep it!!

Awesome review and pics so far!

I've seen those Godiva shooters before on here but didn't understand the "infused strawberry" thank you for posting that pic-they are now on my must try list :thumbsup2

Can't wait for more
