Hi I am new to the board, this is something that would have never occured to me if it had not happened to me.
If you are taking a digital camera with you, get a memory card for each day, or download your card every night and leave the full one in your room.
On our trip in march, our kids very first one, I got a large memory card and had gotten some wonderful pictures, until on our very last ride I lost our camera, bag and all. I lost all of our pictures of the whole trip, from the airport on (it was the kids first flight also). Nobody every turned the camera in, I am still heartbroken over the pictures that I lost, and i don't want that to happen to anyone else.

great advice. i was thinking about doing this too. i'm so sorry you lost all of your pictures... i would be devastated.

Oh no, this is exactly why I will be schlepping my laptop all the way from Australia and travelling around with it for 3 weeks, so I can download my images every night.

I'm so sorry this happened to you.

my DLH was taking pics with our new camera one year, got about 30 good pics and noticed it was set on great quality, and it wouldnt take anymore. So he had to erase them all to get 200 normal quality ones

How disappointing! I think I would be sick! :sad2: We bring our laptap and stick the photos on to that at night or least every couple nights and also keep them on the card. We have a 4GB and 8GB. If you watch for sales you can get good quality big cards for super cheap. I got the 8 on sale last spring and got it more than 50% off.

I'm sorry. That is such an awful feeling. I know it all too well..... We had gone on a vacation with our kids & lost our camera too. And again, nobody turned it in. :( Just makes you want to cry. We've also even had a video camera stolen with footage of our 1st child-BUT luckily it was none of the big milestone stuff other than Halloween, I think. Anyway, in situations like that I would totally pay money just for the video, card or film back. Keep the camera but give me the memories. :(

  I'm so sorry. I know what an awful feeling that is.

I also take my laptop & download the pics on it each night. I have a 1gb that I usually use, a 512mb, and a 4 gb. I take them all, plus an extra battery.

Thats a horrible feeling. :( We also put our name, phone # and address on our cameras. We've misplaced our camera a few times and thought it had been stolen and I just wanted to throw up. Luckily we ended up finding it each time. I get so worried about this though. IME, the bigger the camera, the harder it is to lose. The little digitals are just too easy to set down and walk away from.

that is sad.

I do the download thing every night with my travel laptop (mini)

like a lot of other posters, I have some rather large sized media card so that I can snap away. I usually set it to do a triple exposure, in case someone walks in fron of the camera!

to take extra media cards, I found this:

Oh, I forgot, I also take a picture of a piece of paper with our cell numbers written out just in case an honest person found it.

Along those same lines, I take a picture of our room door (number) and the room in general, then a picture of the laptop and other stuff. it helps to have a record that you had things in your room. (I take the pictures with the date/time stamp turned on) I also take a picture of DW's camera, then one of mine with hers! (with a close-up of all serial numbers)

It only takes a few minutes. I copy them to the laptop, just in case...

I'm sorry. :guilty: I know exactly how that feels. I've lost my camera twice on Disney vacations. Once it was returned, once nope. Now I triple knot my camera carrying case to my belt loops and stick it in my pocket. And it has worked so far. *crosses fingers*

That stinks.

I was in Vietnam for 3 weeks back in April. Someone pickpocketed my camera right out of my bag that I had across my shoulder after a week and I lost nearly 200 pictures.

Thats what we do,, we take our laptop and put our pics on it everynight when we get back to our room, that we we have a fresh, empty memory card everyday...

It's a good idea to take some of those photos with a dated newspaper in the picture as well.

OP, I am so sorry for your loss of your precious photos; they may have stolen your photos, but they did NOT steal away your memories, and they can never do so. Still, it must be very hard to have to deal with. ((((HUGS!))))

On another note of taking pics., I also take photos of all of the packed bags, individual clothing items; I leave those ones on my memory card on my camera that I take on the carryon bag. That way if my luggage should go missing, I will have a quick 'list' of things I can write down for them. :)

We transport pics. to our laptop daily using free Picasa program, but then we choose to KEEP the pics. and videos on the memory card, in case anything happened to the laptop. Or, you can upload photos nightly to an online photo place if you have internet access, which is another good way to ensure duplicate copies are being kept.
