Photo sharing: Zoos

The prairie dog wasn't behind glass either. I scoped out the cleanest spots. The gorillas throw and smear 'stuff' at/on the glass. Yucky!

Very nice shots! How is the neighborhood around the zoo? I know that back in the late 1980s (last time I was there) it was a little shall we say "iffy."

Nice!

I went there one day after work last summer. I got some great shots with the exact same setup, D50 and 70-300mm VR lens.

They have a great gorilla exhibit.

Nice photos. That 70-300VR is really a nice zoo lens, isn't it? That's the one I usually use, although I had pretty good luck with the Sigma 150/2.8 Macro the last time I went.

Thanks:)
I love the lens!
The area around the zoo seems fine to me, its been cleaned up a lot from what I hear. One of my friends that came along grew up just north of Boston in the 70's and she was surprised at how much nicer the area looked. Many elementary schools in my area go there for field trips- I went with my DD's class 3-4 years ago.
Its a great little zoo, along with the Stone Zoo. The indoor gorilla exihibit was very nice, they are still working on the outdoor one. The zebras and wildebeests had a really nice, big, grassy enclosure. I felt sad for the leopard, oselot and lion since they were alone in their exhibits:( Overall the animals seemed to have nice homes. I can't wait to get back to the Stone Zoo- I hear they had a baby jaguar born in the spring and they have the otters- I love watching them:)

Very nice. Last time I went to the Franklin Park Zoo, I realized about halfway there that I'd left my camera at home :headache: so I had to buy a disposable camera in the gift shop and shoot with that! How frustrating! :headache: :headache:

Quick trip to the Stone Zoo today to see the new baby jaguar:goodvibes
This is Chessie. Lots of glare and she just wouldn't keep still so photos aren't great but she sure is a cutie!

Oh man, this isn't at all what I expected. After looking at the subject, I was expecting to see what real, wild pet rocks look like rather than the domesticated ones. Cute cat pictures, though.

I suggest that you try using a polarizing filter. That will reduce the reflections from the glass. Another trick is to put the camera right up against the glass and to block any space between the camera and the glass with your cupped hand.

:lmao:
You know, I've learned that wild pet rocks are VERY illusive. I have yet to track one down at this zoo nevermind get a photo of one. Then again, I've been taking this friend I work with and she's in a wheelchair(that I am pushing) so I'm not exactly very stealth. Not the best for tracking down these illusive creatures;)
I should have thought to get closer to the glass! Darn! I did try taking a few thru my sunglasses since I was using my p&s, didn't work very well. DD has my dslr and everything that goes with it at school. Guess I'll have to go back and try again.

...

Take the backstage tour. They have a special area reserved to hold the crazy critters. Be careful though, especially when they drop the cage with the goat into the area (think Jurassic Park.)

Cute. We have - I think - five adult jaguars, but they haven't gotten any babies yet. They keep trying. Brought in a new female recently. They are all gorgeous though. One is a black jaguar - very, very cool. Would be great if they could ever get them to breed successfully.

We went to the zoo on Sunday - seems to be a new tradition for our family - we went to the Ft. Worth zoo last year between Christmas and New Years. Half of the zoo was closed for some work they were doing but we still have a good time. Just wanted to share a few shots. If anyone else has been to the zoo lately please share yours as well. :goodvibes

I was totally not expecting the links in the chain fence to frame this the way it did - but I like it.

Great shots! We took a trip to the Philadelphia Zoo back in October. I posted some shots then, but here are some again since you asked!! :goodvibes

PS: I love your shot of (what looks like) the albino python, your new camera definitely does a great job.

Great pics! :thumbsup2

The picture of the kangaroo reminds me of one of my labs. He sleeps like that all of the time. :)

The elephant bottoms made me laugh - very cute shot! :thumbsup2

Zoos always seem like a great place to get animal shots, but it never really works out for me.

Here are some from the Dallas Zoo from '04:

Here are a few from the OKC zoo from '04 (I guess it was a year of zoo trips for me):
