Photo Sharing: Ultra Wide Angle

Touched up another set now that I'm not on a small laptop screen and left the original resolution for you folks that wanna see the Magic Kingdom during Halloween. = )

A few more samples of the first trip with the Tamron wide angle. They're nothing that hasn't been done before, but were fun for me to shoot. Comments and constructive advice is always appreciated!

I'm coming late to this thread and I didn't want to slog through all 95 pages in one shot today, but I wanted to make a couple of comments on things I saw in the first couple of pages.

11 mm? Hah, *real* wide angle doesn't start until 10 mm! ;)
Here is a 10mm photo of a railway post office car:

Looks familiar. Also a 10MM shot...

I'm sorry, just to clarify- it doesn't need a focus motor for Canons? I have a Canon Rebel XSi (eventually will upgrade to 40D probably). Why does it not need a focus motor for Canons??

Canons have a focus motor in the body, therefore it doesn't need to be in the lens. Some dSLRs like the Nikon D40 & D60 don't have a focus motor in the body--so in order for a lens to AF on a D40 or D60, it has to have a focus motor in the lens. Up until recently, this was a common complaint for D40 and D60 owners because the only inexpensive fast prime Nikon offered was the 50mm f/1.8, which wouldn't autofocus with those camera models.

So I'm guessing the newer version of the Tokina 12-24 put a focus motor in the body to make sure that everyone could use it.

This may have been addressed already, but this was the misconception I wanted to clear up.

I've been a Canon shooter since 1999 and of the seven Canon bodies I've had, three film and four digital, not one has a focus motor in the body. All of the eight Canon EF mount lenses I own have their focus motors in the lens. Canon has a couple of different types of focus motors and this may have led to the confusion.

Nikon is the manufacturer that has alternately had their focus motors in the lens and the body. To the best of my knowledge Canon never marketed an AF camera that had the focus motor in the body.

I finally caught up in the thread. Wonderful pictures everyone...

Thanks.

These are all multi-shot HDRs—three exposures to be exact. I mainly use Photomatix for HDR. Although the new Photoshop CS5 Merge to HDR is very good to. Sometimes I use PS just to merge the files as I think it is sharper and then do the tonemapping in Photomatix, as Photomatix gives more control of tonemapping than PS.

There is a poll thread that ask what HDR program people use. Do a search and you'll find a few other answers.

Do you have some preferred tonemapping settings for CS5 Merge to HDR? I had some I got out of a Scott Kelby article in Outdoor Photographer but I lost them when the hard drive in my old computer crashed. I couldn't find the article I got them from and internet searches have proved fruitless.

I haven't shot trains in awhile, but yesterday it just seemed the right thing to do.

Yeah, trains are fun with a wide angle and HDR...

Anyone who loves photography really needs to make a point of visiting Colorado, Utah, South Dakota, Wyoming and Arizona. It's a marvel to behold.

I'm loving your shots MrCricket!

California has some pretty nice scenery too...

WOW. Seriously, this is a great shot. I love to feel like I'm actually "in" the picture and this one makes me feel like I'm standing on the bank watching that friendship boat move off the dock. Great colors and perspective. :thumbsup2

Thanks. Was waiting for our reservations at Les Chef de France and got lucky with a nice sunset.
