Photo sharing: Sony Alpha

I was able to take the A77 to Disneyland for it's first outing in the park. I LOVE this camera. Here is a shot I took in Carsland after the World of Color crowds had gone for the night. It still needs a little work and I have to get a tri-pod instead of the mono-pod but I think it came out ok.

Kyle, that's a nice shot. A tripod will definitely help at night.

Thanks for the encouragement guys! It is a good start but I still have a lot to learn. A tripod is a must and also maybe a slower shutter speed. I love doing the night time shots like that so I'll have to continue to study up on best practices and review other people's photos before my next trip in November.

I also need to figure out how I got that weird lens aberration in the lower left corner. any ideas?

Lens was the SEL 35mm 1.8. I had it on expecting to take family shots but this bee caught my attention. He was engrossed with slurping on nectar which allowed me to get the camera pretty close. Not a macro lens so had to do a fair amount of cropping. I'm starting to look into a true Minolta macro lens.

The Minolta 100/2.8 macro is nothing short of spectacular.... Though I may be hesitant to use it handheld for any real macro work, without stabilization.

Every time I think of switching to e-mount, I remind myself that my Minolta collection won't be stabilized.

You are all my go to when I am having an issue that I cannot work through! I have a Sony a77 and am getting a "no more room on the memory card" error. There are only 9 pictures on the card and I shoot only in RAW. I tried to format the card but I am having issues. I put a new card in and it works just fine.

What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance for your answers and help!

My guess is the memory card is defective.

I wouldn't switch to e-mount if I were you, but you could buy an e-mount to compliment what you already have. I've seen great results using e-mounts + adapted lenses, even on the long end. You can pick up an NEX-6 or A3000 pretty cheap and would gain a different focal length for all your lenses.

On a different note, I finally got a hold of my Tamron 150-600mm lens for A-mount! Been waiting for this thing since January - having sold my 200-500mm back then in anticipation. Finally last night it arrived. I stuck it on the A580 for some quick test shots in the backyard - there was barely enough light left, so I had to crank up the ISO a little, and I was of course limited to what I could find in the yard at that moment, but mainly I was testing to make sure the lens alignment was correct and focus was accurate at both ends of the focal range. These are just quick handheld shots in JPG unedited right from the camera, but looks very promising and sharp, especially for wide-open apertures at the max 600mm end:

If Sony would put the A7s sensor in a body with stabilization (A or E) imagine what you could do with that lens.

Ehhhh..... I've considered it, not sure I really want to juggle 2 different systems. I already have the RX100 as my second camera/compact option. I feel an e-mount wouldn't necessarily add a whole lot, more just muddy my options. Ultimately, it would either sit in a closet, OR, it would mostly replace my a-mount.
If I really want to go light and compact, I'd take my RX100. Where I want the best IQ or need longer lenses, I go with my A99. I just don't see a huge amount of room for "in-between."

I have considered trading my whole system for an A6000 + premium e-mount lenses, just keeping a couple of my a-mount lenses. (So get the Zeiss 16-70/f4, the Sony 70-200/f4 g, plus a fast prime, keep my 200/2.8, my 100 2.8 macro).

I'd also tend to think you have a defective card or it went bad.

Now and then there are brands that don't play well with certain cameras. I had an issue with a card (switch that - it was a Kingston I think) that would work for a bit and then go buggy in my NEX. I now just use it in another camera and it's been fine.

Of course, with significant cropping.

On another note, would I be crazy to consider scaling down from full frame to the a77ii.

I'm not confident in the Sony a-mount future at all. I want to continue to grow, but don't want to lose any more money on a-mount.
Changing to a whole new system would be even more costly without direct replacement for all I would lose.
The a77ii would give me the newest technology, so should last 3 years or more. It would fix some of my complaints about the a99 -- mostly a far superior AF system.
I could probably break even trading my a99+28-75+KM17-35 for the a77ii+16-50+aps-c ultra wide. My 200/2.8 would become a 300/2.8... With my 2x tele, it would be 600/5.6!
I'm doing an Alaska cruise next summer... While it's just one trip, extra reach on lenses wouldn't be a bad thing.
So how would I feel losing 1/2-1 stop of ISO...

Wish there was a new not-ridiculously priced full frame a-mount. Then I might be willing to give Sony money.
