Thanks Mike. I've been busy lately and haven't had a chance to really take any photos other than playing around the house. That orchid shot was in my house just playing around with window lighting. I really need a day to get out and spend some ME time. How's your move been? I've been going crazy lately trying to decide my next gear move. I don't have a tele lens and was thinking of getting the Sony E mount 55-210 but really want something faster focusing. I also want stabilization. Thats really tough because the lenses built for Sony are starting to come unstabilized. So lately I've been debating getting a body for IBIS. I'm just at a standstill. My only dilema is that I'm so used to the lightweight of the Nex that I don't know if I'll want to haul a DSLR again. I don't think I'll ever be without the Nex. My Nex will be my PRIMARY body with a DSLR backup. LOL.

Everything went well with the move, did the physical move last Saturday and spent the entire weekend unpacking. Still dont have internet yet at the house, waiting for the modem and setup stuff to be mailed to us. I took some pics of the girls at the park by our house but other than that havent shot much.

Faster focusing is nice to have for sure. The Tamron 70-300 I got recently isnt too fast n that department but so far hasnt been a problem for what im using it for. That is a tough decision, you get the Nex for the size and how awesome of a camera it is in a small package and to have to carry around a DSLR again is like taking a step backwards lol. Can you find a tele with stabilization and just use and adapter?

You might try the 18-200s and the 55-210s out in the real world, and make sure you've got the right focus modes chosen for the job you are doing - honestly, other than very low light, or being in multipoint mode when you should have been in flex spot, or vice versa, I'd be surprised if there was a subject you'd have much trouble getting with the focus speed on these lenses. I know I routinely test my 55-210mm against flying birds - and not the kind that just took off so I know where they are - I'm talking about walking along, and suddenly you see an object in the corner of your eye approaching, so you whip the camera around, acquire focus, and fire at a freely moving subject passing through the sky. I am able to get focus nailed on this type of subject even with the teleconverter onboard.

Last week I got these two pretty quickly, with no notice or prep...used multipoint focus mode, AF-S, as it was against a clear sky:

These also were spontaneous shots - from pulling the camera up to my eye to firing the shot was about 1.5 seconds, including time to acquire focus:

While admittedly the NEX or any CDAF system won't focus as fast as a phase-detect AF system, it's pretty darn close in good light for single focus acquisition, and if you are using it right, in the right modes, etc I can't think of much I couldn't shoot with the NEX that I can with the DSLR. Where the DSLR comes into its own is when you need to fire multiple burst shots of a moving target, especially one closing on you - that's where phase-detect will stomp on CDAF, in tracking motion while firing...not to mention the much more generous buffer size. For me, the DSLR still reigns #1 for overall build, robustness, battery life, focus tracking, buffer, etc. But I don't consider the NEX a camera that can only do certain things or of limited use - I'm fairly confident I could shoot the same subject as I can with the DSLR, just maybe not with the frequency of burst or tracking it through a continuous motion.

Thanks Hamilton. The colors in that shot look awesome! I need to go WWHP.

Hamilton, nice detail shot. I couldn't get a shot in POTC because we were moving like cattle on my past trip.

I stopped in a camera store a couple of days ago to look at the NEX7 and a Sony rep happened to be there. Boy did I get some inside info!

JK - :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

I asked about any update to the NEX 7 coming- answer was nope.

The sales people had asked for info about a new full frame - answer was nothing definite. ;)

He was very nice and came back and offered me a complimentary ticket to one of the digital days workshops although he thought it might be a little too basic for me. Still, a kind offer and nice to chat with him for a few minutes.

Kathy, don't mess with me.I've only had the 7 a few months. I wouldn't mind IBIS, but that won't happen. I have to say I LOVE the controls on the 7. TRI-NAV.:thumbsup2

He he he - sorry about that! I agree the controls on the NEX7 are nice! Having the view finder and being able to use a flash is nice too. I kept trying to use the touch screen though. :rotfl:

Kathy, the touchscreen on the 5n is nice if you don't shoot with the EVF. I usual use the EVF which would eliminate the use of touchscreen. With the 7, you can keep your eye in the VF and use the TRI-NAV contols and function buttons. The layout is worth it. I would love to see an F5 with 16mp sensor and 7 controls.

How about a full frame NEX with IBIS? That would make even me reconsider my camera options lol. As for now, the soon to be announced A99 is what I am aiming for.
