Photo sharing: Sony Alpha

Just wanted to introduce myself here and subscribe to this thread. After thinking about it for a very long time and considering all of my options, I finally decided on and bought the A300 yesterday. This is my first DSLR. I am upgrading from the Sony H2. I am so excited and cannot wait to get out with the camera.

Congratulations on your purchase! I see you have a WDW trip coming up soon. We're looking forward to seeing shots taken with your new toy! :goodvibes

50mm will work, but you will be limited, for basketball you won't be able to shoot the whole lane, and isolate 1 player, if you sit at the right distance to do one, you won't be able to do the other..

these pics were taken from the first row,,,this will show why 50mm will limit what you can shoot..

with softball you won't be this close to the action

shot at 28mm..

far enough down 3rd baseline to see past dugout.. I needed 300 mm to isolate the batter

Great shots! Thanks for the info.

Both groups of photos are great. Still bad weather here. The only shots I have gotten were while I was walking the dog, so nothing to write home about, just something to get the feel for the camera. Of course now I am making a list of different things I need other lenses or filters for.

Do you all keep a UV filter on all the time? I had one for the H2, but never really bothered with it.

I never have used filters for protection, the extra piece of glass can increase risk of lens flare etc., so unless a filter can benefit my photo I won't use it..

my lens hoods offer good enough protection for me.

the main reason salesman push filters for protection purposes is that they are one of the biggest profit makers for stores..

I'm excited, excited, excited! My Alpha 200 came (yes, I was going to get the 700, but moving my kid to Orlando next month for the Disney College Program is taking all my money....

Out of the box today:

This thread is awesome - I haven't gotten through reading every post yet, but I'm looking forward to it. The pictures I've seen are excellent.

I got my first DSLR (a100) a year ago and I am still learning how to use it. I am slowly going through my copy of The Complete Guide to Sony's Alpha 100 Digital SLR Camera by Gary L. Friedman. (I had a Minolta Rebel before that and use both mostly for family photos and vacations.)

Does anyone have an opinion on the Sony SAL18250 Alpha DT 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 High Magnification Zoom Len? I guess if I invest in that, I need a decent flash, too?

My little girl had dance pictures taken today. I couldn't resist coming home and taking some of my own. They kept the ears that go with the outfit so that they could modify them for the recital, but we had some from easter. They aren't great, but they are my first portait attempts with the new camera.

A crop of the above, I love this cheesy smile.

I'm just back from a trip to Chicago and I thought that I'd share a few pictures from Millenium Park of the "bean". I absolutely loved this sculpture. If you look carefully, you can see me taking the pictures.

Those pics from Chicago are gorgeous, I would love to see that in person.

Great shot Mickey88. Is that your 300? My husband drives a dark blue one, not sure of the year, but it is our second, I am pretty sure it is an 04, we had a black 2001 before we had kids.
