Hey Bill, good to see you post something. Hey, have you been down to the city lately? I went yesterday and caught some of the day parades but left before Bacchus. They had all of the make up parades from Saturday's bad weather. I didnt get too many good shots because I'm still learning the 5n and the sun was ruthless. I was shooting into the sun. This is what I was fighting the whole time.

Haven't been to Nawlins since the last Saints home game. Haven't been to Mardi Gras in a few years. When I used to go to Mardi Gras in the 70's & 80's, everyone had Polaroids to take "those pictures" down in the Quarter. The last time we were there everyone was using cell phone cameras and you know within minutes "those pictures" were on YouTube.

Bill, I know what you mean about CP cameras. Especially around the quarter. I wasn't sure if I wanted to haul my camera gear down there. I hate bringing anything valuable to the city. I was robbed once when I was 18 off of St Charles by Carrolton Ave. I dont mind walking around the FQ during the day but Mardi Gras is a whole different story. It was pretty crowded. A Mardi Gras crowd is nothing like a WDW crowd.

If we didnt have the sun beating down on us, it was blinding us ..... boy I hate the midday sun and its harsh shadows and flares.

In hindsight I should've switched to the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 I had taken with me to get even better DoF, but the Sony 16-50 f/2.8 did the job just as well.

This photo exemplifies one of my favorite functions on the NEX cameras: MF Assist! It's so awesome to be able to zoom in on the LCD screen and fine-tune your focus.

ADORABLE!! What breed is your dog?

Thanks. It is a Havanese. They come in all different colors. They do not shed. They do not smell. Unless you plan on showing them, grooming is only once or twice a year. They are excellent family dogs. They are easily trainable (they were bred to perform in the circus). They range from 7 to 13 lbs and 8-12 inches tall. They are a fantastic breed.

Thanks HPS3! It's fun to plot out new angles and ideas before you get there, although I find it's hard to remember in the heat of the moment

How do you like the Rokinon 8mm? I bought it right before I left and thought "Maybe I'll shoot like 20 shots with it" and ended up having it on WAY more than any other lenses. It's super fun!

Hamilton, I love the Fisheye! I bought the Sigma 10-20/4-5.6 last month but actually like the fisheye more. I just like how an ordinarily boring photo can be transformed into something interesting. For the price it can't be beat. I like putting manual lenses on the Nex. Yesterday I received the Rokkor 45/2. Today I'm waiting on delivery of the Sel 16/2.8 and a Fujian 35/1.7 CCTV($35) lens to play with. I'll post some pics when I get my 5n back. I sent it to Sony for the click fix and should get it back Friday.

So I take it you've got the LA-EA2, as well? I need to really start exploring the manual lenses that the NEX seems to love being coupled with. Which adapter are using for the Fujian?

I bought the LA-EA2 with the 35/1.8 and just returned it. For the stuff I shoot I just couldn't justify the $500 just to use a 35 right now. If I move into the 70-200 or so I'll buy one again. Right now I love using manual lenses on the Nex. I'm in love with the Tamron 60/2 DII Macro. I haven't tried my Minolta Rokkor 45/2 yet. I'm still waiting on my 5n to get back tomorrow. I use the Fotodiox adapters off EBay or Amazon ($25-$30). The Fujian 35/1.7 came with an adapter for $35. When I test these new lenses I'll post some pics. There's something about manual lenses on the Nex. I also ordered the 16/2.8 to make the camera compact. I do find that I use the tilt EVF alot in the tilted up position. With the camera against my chest I can hold it really steady and my arms are comfortable. Have you shot fireworks with the Nex yet. For long exposures I turned the NR off. It was taking forever to process shots with it on. I shoot in RAW also.

You know, I don't remember my grass really turning brown this year. If only I would have some luck with my Crape Myrtles. I'm hoping it's not in the 90's at the end of next month in WDW.

I know what you mean about our so called winter this year. Our blueberry bushes are already blooming! We will be in Orlando the end of May and normally it's warm enough that time of year. I will be in your neck of the woods tomorrow. DW and I are going to the Gumbo Cookoff in downtown Slidell. $10 and all you can eat gumbo? That's a no-brainer!!

Hamilton, great shot! I just bought the Hoya ND400 and was testing it out yesterday on my Sigma 10-20. I found out I have light leaking in my adapter so I'll have to resolve this before WDW next month. I was planning on this spot for Illuminations. What spot do you recommend?
