Here is another shot of "The Bean" in Chicago:

Thank you Dznyfan for the nice comment about my picture from the Shedd aquarium. I found the sea dragons to be quite a challenge with their movement and the narrow depth of field on my lens (f1.4). However, I was so glad to have that lens in that it enabled me to capture shots in the low light that I couldn't have otherwise.

One of our yearly visitors that I only get to see in the spring.

This is my favorite time of year. My 100mm macro is my favorite lens and I use it a lot during the summer. Here are a few pictures from Mackinac Island:

I've picked up a new toy to add to my A550 and my lens collection. Just thought I'd share the joy and fun with fellow Sony-ites:

If you couldn't tell from the photos, it's a Minolta 300mm F4 APO G...a classic big prime. The thing is built like a piece of military hardware - unbelievable construction, weight, heft, precision, and thickness. It's a lovely beast with lovely bokeh...it's going to be fun adding this one to the wildlife shooting duties with the big Tamron. They're not cheap, but we all know SLAS is an expensive addictive habit.

I haven't gotten out to shoot with it yet...I picked it up Sunday, so I only had a chance to stand outside the front of my house and snap a blue jay that came to feed:

Nice and sharp, even in the harsh light of late afternoon...and lovely creamy background blur.

I also thought I'd play around with it inside, with my cat sitting on the back of the couch - from about 15 feet away in a dark room with heavy backlight coming through the window...F8 to widen the DOF, and ISO12800 to get a fast-enough shutter...I love that high ISO performance of the A550!:

Can't wait to get out and shoot with it some more!

nice addition to your collection, I've been looking at those for years but always talk myself out of it, since I do more portrait/model stuff than anything.

However if you ever get tired of it and feel like donating it to a fellow diser, put me at the top of the list..

I especially like this one Heidi and the way you have it filling the whole frame. I can't quite decide what it is though. Looks coral but I wouldn't think that's around Mackinac. Barnacle?

Just because Mary Kay teamed up with XZibit doesn't mean anything!! I heard that when you open the trunk the entire 2008-2010 line of products come out on a display case! puckerup:

Thanks, Kathy! This is a picture of a fossilized rock that was on the beach within the reading area of the public library. The library has an outdoor reading area with rockers and benches that allow you to read while listening to the waves come in to shore. It's very nice. I was suprised at the amount and variety of fossilized rock on the island.

Congratulations, Justin! I am sure that you will capture many amazing shots with your new lens. You are an outstanding wildlife photographer and I look forward to seeing your pictures.

Thanks all...the lens is definitely a fun addition...hopefully this weekend the rain forecast will provide some holes so I can get out and really play with it.

Though the rain isn't all bad...yesterday I got home from work and noticed the brief rainshowers gave way to nice early evening sun...the little droplets were glittering on the flowers, and it prompted me to run inside and grab the camera and 300mm lens:
