Most of the FotLK photos were taken with Panasonic's new 45-175 X lens. It is pretty sharp and focuses quickly but f/5.6 at long focal lengths is getting slow. I use Program mode for almost all photos unless there is a good reason not to. I still maintain we can usually achieve any valid exposure setting in Program that we can in Manual and a lot faster. Here is some of the EXIF:

Shutter speed: 1/100 sec
Aperture: 5.6
Exposure mode: Program
Exposure compensation: -1/3
Flash: Off
Metering mode: Multi-segment
ISO: 3200
Focal length: 175mm

I was still new with the camera and might use spot metering and no exposure compensation now for a spotlit stage show.

We just got back last night from a great trip! I haven't gotten the pictures transferred to my computer yet, but I think I got a few good ones. They look good on the LCD screen anyway.

I hope to start looking through them tonight and at least get one to enter in the contest this week. Next week with Christmas over, I should have more time to get through them all. We had great weather the whole week!

Hi. First time posting here, but some of you may recognize me from my "Just bought an E-PL1" thread. Thanks for your feedback and invitation to post here.

I'll be in DW Jan 20-26, so seeing all your shots has me really excited. They are so awesome. I'm still getting used to my camera, but hope I've learned enough to take some good pics.

So here's what I plan on bringing:
E-PL1 w/ 2 kit lenses
M.Zuiko 14-42mm f3.5-5.6
M.Zuiko 40-150mm f4.0-5.6
zipshot tripod
cannon s95
a lot of sd cards

I'd love to get one of the faster prime lenses, but can't afford it right now. The s95 is pretty good, though, so will probably fall back on that alot in low light (rides, etc).

Anyway, hope I get some that are nice enough to share. Meanwhile, I'll keep looking at this thread for inspiration...

Happy New Year, All!

DS and I are familiarizing ourselves with the PEN. I'd bought the E-PL1 for Dummies book a while ago since the camera was so similar to my E30 (figuring it would help me learn more about it) and knowing I'd be picking up the PEN at some point. So we blew the dust off it this week and are starting from Square 1 together (and including the rest of the family as well so everyone knows how to use it! I also have a friend who bought the same one so I'll be helping her and her family learn to use theirs as well - I have her reading Dummies and Understanding Exposure since she's moving from a point and shoot. It should be interesting to watch her progress and I'll chronicle it here if anyone reading this is interested. I've been thinking for a long time about running a basic photography class out of my house so this might be kind of a dry fun for something like that as well).

Kids are kinda funny, you know? I'm reading the book out loud and DS has already blown through most of the buttons and showing me what I'm reading, lol. We have an advantage for sure since it's so familar to our other Olympus cameras. But the PEN does have some cool features our others don't have so we want to make sure we know how to use them. (The retractable lens was a little confounding at first, lol - to me, anyway.) I'm hoping to maybe get outside a bit to shoot this weekend.

I also wanted to link this other m43 thread here. It is interesting to see how the world is evolving from the negativity that m43 generated when they were first introduced a couple of years ago.

Save up those pennies. The latest rumors is that OLympus will announce on February 8th a Pro-Spec'ed m4/3 camera. It supposedly will be a totaly different design from the current PEN models and will more closely resemble the OM film cameras. In addtion the rumor is that it will include groundbreaking EVF technology.

I'm sure it will be out of my price range but it will be great to see Olympus produce some new products after all of the recent financial problems and good for m4/3 in general.

I haven't been following lately but what ever happened with Olympus? Did someone buy the camera division? Did they work out their problems?

Rumors are that Olympus will be partnering with one of Sony/Panasonic/Fuji to help with their financial problems. I hope it works out, the new camera sounds good.
Other micro 4/3 news: Sigma announced two new lenses, a 30 f/2.8 and a 19 f/2.8. Panasonic finally specified their two high-end lenses: 12-35 f/2.8 and 35-100 f/2.8.
We may see more before the end of CES!
