Photo Sharing: Nikon

I need help. I just bought the Nikon D3100 with the basic lens. I want to get a telephoto lens,what should I look for? We go to WDW a few times a year and we like to cruise on Disney Ships. I would like a lens that will take great pictures in the ships theater among other things. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Really great suggestion, I am definitely "one of those" who unfold the instructions when I get a inexpensive part of furniture or anything to observe the pictures of how to put it together. The photo sharing with Nikon camera is really great experience.
