I'm no expert, but since you asked, here's my comments.

Nice subject matter, good capture of the light.

What I would suggest be different is I would crop out the top 1/4 of the clouds and tighten it up with the more dramatic clouds. Also, I would try to avoid the foreground greenery being tallest in the center of the shot - maybe move the tallest part of the foreground greenery off to the side.

Keep up the good work -- only practice leads to improvement.

It was hard to do the inside shots with no flash for the animals! I needed a tripod but I don't own one yet.

It looks like you took these at Como Zoo. They don't allow tripods in the Conservatory, I'm not sure about the animal buildings.

Thanks, here's a quick run down on how I shoot marco's, I always use a tripod, have the camera set to mirror lockup, use a remote shutter release and only 1 focus point, I change the focus point around so it's not always in the center, it depends on what I'm shooting.
Manual focus never auto, I adjust the focus ring while holding the shutter release button halfway down on the remote shutter release until I hear and see that I have focus, I shoot anywhere between f/8 - f/16.

why do you hold the shutter halfway while you adjust focus?

By holding down the remote shutter button halfway down it will beep (if set to beep) and also in the right corner of the view finder it will confirm you have the object in focus with the green dot staying solid green, at least that how it works for on the 40d.
