Dave - this is Devil's Tower, right? We're heading out to Mt. Rushmore this summer and I've planned a day trip to Devil's Tower. Can't wait! (And the brown trees are the result of that beetle that's killing the trees in that area, right?)
Yes, that's Devil's Tower and that shot is from the Joyner Ridge Trial, a 1.5 mile loop just off the entrance road before you get to the Visitor Center. There is also the Valley View trail and the trail around the base of the tower, which is a must do.
The brown trees are Ponderosa Pines killed by the Pine Bark Beetle.
Before you get to the park don't miss the pullout and get this view of the tower:

The park is about 45 minutes away once you get off I-80. There are lots of things to do in the Black Hills area.
