This is a little bit outside the norm but I thought that Canon shooters might like to see these shots.
I went to Hong Kong over Easter and had the opportunity to check out Canon, Hong Kong. In one of the gadget meccas of the world, Canon advertising is everywhere. And if you do the comparison against the advertising to the left and right, I guess Canon figure that they only need the gadget to push product; rather than any other sort of .... um......bazooka's.
And where there is Canon, there is usually Nikon, Sony and everyone else.
You'll find camera shops practically everywhere in Hong Kong.
(NOTE to anyone heading to Hong Kong....the locals NEVER shop in shops on the street level. They tell me those shops are for tourists!)
But back to Canon. Their customer service premise is located at one of the mall buildings, iSquare, in Tsim Sha Tsui. They have recently moved in here, previously located at another building across the road.
There is an automatic ticket machine which you will need to get a ticket from if you want to be served. Your number will be called in turn.
Service was brilliant here. The person who served me knew her stuff and was more than helpful. I had a black speck that had been somewhere superficial in my camera (not on my pictures) but I could see it through the viewfinder. No one in Melbourne could help me and as it didn't interfere with my image, I learnt to live with it.
It took Canon 2 minutes to fix it. Now I have to learn to live without the black speck!
I also needed to get my front grip fixed....let's just say that I haven't been exactly delicate with my grip and it showed. Sadly, they didn't have the part in stock but pointed me in the right direction for a Melbourne shop, which has now been resolved since my return.
The fun bit? Check out the hands on concept shop that I got to play in.
It really was a smorgasbord of all things Canon!
Take a look at the lenses I got to play with as well.
The shop is located on Level 20 of the iSquare building. With these babies, I could see clear across the harbour for amazing detail on the buildings on the Hong Kong Island side.
As I only have a T2i, I didn't have a CF card!
All the prosumers with a 7D or higher just pulled out their CF cards, popped them into the cameras and shot away to their heart's content.
EOS Discrimination, I call it!
The staff around the store were very discreet and watchful. They never pressured anyone about the amount of time they were spending on an item and I didn't see any sign of "pushy sales". The staff were more than happy to wait for someone to ask for assistance and stand back.
It was a great way to spend some time away from the hustle and bustle of the streets below.
Next time....bring CF card!
