Hello All,

DW and I will be in Hilton Head, SC for the last week of February, and since I don't golf I intend to spend most of my time with my camera glued to my hands (I'm hoping the birdlife will be good at that time). Does anyone have any recommended photo op sites? I shoot a Nikon DSLR and have lenses covering from 12mm to 340mm. I am interested in a variety of subject matter so all recommendations are welcomed.

Thanks!

we haven't been there for yrs but there was a nice scenic lighthouse http://www.harbourtownlighthouse.com/ to go up in it for a nice view) and marina in harbor town, and also some tabby ruins ( thinking that might have been by harbor town as well, know it was on one of the plantations ) that were ok, not spectacular but different . i think this is one place we went that was pretty nice http://www.fws.gov/pinckneyisland/facts.htm , the pinckney preserve

We were just at HHI DVC a couple of weeks ago. I was trying out my new Rebel and found the guys in the pic below sitting on the sea wall across from the entrance to the resort.

If you're staying at DVC then there are lots of great marsh shots both early AM as well as at sunset. Can't wait to see what you get...

The Harbour Town lighthouse is a fun place to go for some nice photos. Unfortunately, I don't have any photos from my visit to the lighthouse since the PGA Tour stop was happening that week, and it was just a "sea of people" everytime I went over to Harbour Town.

I would also suggest visiting The Salty Dog Cafe at South Beach. There are some nice photo ops there as well as on the way to that part of HHI. I remember passing by a marsh with South Beach at the other end. Also on the way to South Beach I passed an inlet during low tide and got some shots of boats tied to docks, but sitting on the ground.

This was taken while enjoying a cool beverage at the Salty Dog Cafe.

And there are some colorful parrots that reside at Jake's Cargo, near The Salty Dog Cafe.

If you were a golfer, I would suggest taking your camara on the golf course. I took my camera with me to every golf course that I golfed during my last trip. As a result, I got some great shots of wildlife including this one of a gator.

The sand in the foreground is the bunker that was between the gator and me.

Finally, even when you go out to dinner you can find some great photo ops. Especially at restaurants that are on the water, like Hudson's.

Have a great trip! I hope to see some photos after you get back.

Thanks all!

These are great recommendations and with my countdown sitting at about 2 1/2 weeks I am getting pretty excited. If I don't come back with something worth printing I'll be sorely disappointed. I look forward to posting when I get back, or maybe even while I'm still there.

Thanks again,
