Hello all,

We ar ring shopping online & I have my heart set on a princess cut diamond. They are an expensive cut, so I'm trying to keep it small and simple. I don't want anything too big, but I also don't want anything nonexistent looking.

Do any of you have a photo of you wearing your 1/2 or 3/4 carat diamond E-ring?

Would you mind sharing or directing me to your PJ or TR where you might have a photo? I would like to see what this size looks like on a finger. Your photo doesn't have to be a princess cut.

Also, do you have any experience with ordering a ring online through Ebay or Overstock.com or another site?

Thanks so much!!:goodvibes

I have one on the first page of my PJ (link in my siggy). Mine is 3/4, it was a bit pricey because it was a Canadian diamond, but I know that you can get similar ones for less. I know ice.com had a similar one at the time.

Hi there!:goodvibes

I didn't see a ring picture on the first page of your PJ (link in your siggy)-??

Love your Candyland motif, BTW!!

There should be a photo of my ring on the first page of my PJ. Also, link in my siggy :rotfl:

It's not on my finger, but you can see my nail behind it.

My main diamond is 60 points, and the total amount of diamons is around 1 carat.

My DFi got my ring from Zales.com and we had no problems. Unfortunately my ring isnt the type you are looking for. But I can attest to the website. HTH I have gotten other nice jewelry from Overstock- and I have been really happy

I can't help, but I will give the advice to go to a jeweler instead of a mall jewelry store. In Chicago there is a section of Wabash Street called "Jewelers Row" and its just a ton of jewelers. The shops aren't fancy and they are basically just a room and a guy with boxes of inventory but you are less likely to be ripped off. Jewelry stores have the perfect lighting to make things look better than what they really are. I look in mall jewelry stores sometimes and see I could have gotten a massive diamond for what DH spent, but I'm sure the color, cut, clarity are horrible. Be sure to research those things and don't just focus on the carat.

When we bought my ring, we were shown diamonds that at a glance looked great and then the jeweler gave us a magnifying loop, and I couldn't believe the amount of black specks and imperfections. We were also able to look at D color diamonds compared to more yellow diamonds...it was just really helpful.

Well, my ring is a 1.58 ct square radiant cut, so I can't help you with this size... But I will say, don't limit yourself...You'd be surprised what you can buy on a limited budget.

My 1.58ct. ring was less than $2,500 total. It is a "J" color, and an I2 clarity, but honestly, no one can tell what the specifications are... it's sparkly and I love it, and that's all that anyone sees.

My ring came from www.exceldiamonds.com They were excellent to work with, and helped me pick the best diamond for my budget. They carry an extensive selection of "imperfect" diamonds at a discounted price. For example, I just looked and there was a 1 ct. princess diamond for under $800.

Seriously, my mom's jaw dropped when I told her how much we paid for my ring. She couldn't believe it, even at an I2, it's still hard to see the inclusions in the stone on my hand.

again just a thought...

To answer your original question... I've never bought a ring on overstock, but I have purchased a few pairs of diamond earrings, and haven't had any problems... I did also look at them for my e-ring.

You can also try Blue Nile, my ring came from there and I think it's gorgeous (there's a pic in my PJ, it's .92 carats). You can get much better quality for less money since they have less overhead costs than most jewelers (my friend did an MBA paper on them, so apparently she learned that in her research). You also have 30 days to return, so if you don't like it, you can always send it back.

Ebay I would be careful of, I'm sure there are reputable sales people there, but there are also some scammers. Overstock should be fine, I have never purchased jewelry from them. Be sure you get a GIA certified diamond and know the exact specifications of the diamond you're purchasing.

My best friend's ring is 3/4 of a carat and I never thought it was too small. But she does have very small hands, so that's something to consider too.

Here is a picture of my ring :

It's .55 carats. I love the size of it, I wouldn't want it any bigger.

Here is mine

It's a 3 carat.

Here it is actually on my finger so you can see how big it looks on a hand.

Hi-

Mine is a solitaire that is just under 1/2 carat from Tiffany's. It is a perfect stone. It is a D color and IF clarity. When Tiffany sent the specs there were more about the cut of the stone etc but I would have to look those up. Personally, I wanted a smaller stone that was perfect as opposed to a larger stone that was not. The pic I have of it on my finger isn't the greatest with the flash and everything but you can see the size. I have small fingers and I think the size is perfect. It is simple and feminine and isn't overbearing on my hand. And with the wedding band we picked out it complements it perfectly.

I love my ring and DH couldn't have picked anythign better. He did an amazing job! SO I think a 1/2 carat will be fine on your hand and when you get a wedding band it will complement it perfectly without being too big and gaudy :goodvibes

In this one you can see my hand with the wedding band on it.

My DFi bought my e-ring from blue nile online. It's a lot bigger than I thought he could afford but they really worked with him and his budget. He spent about $2500 and got me a 1.36 center stone princess cut diamond, my ring is 1.5 TW. It is J color, and an I2 clarity but you can't see any inclusions with the naked eye. I get it cleaned at a local jewelry exchange that specializes in diamonds and the woman swooned over it. It sparkles beautifully and has so much fire to it in any light. I am very pleased with it.

He called and emailed back and forth with blue nile for a while and he even got a discount because he had been searching for so long and they felt bad it was taking so long. Create a personal relationship with someone and they are more than willing to help you out. My ring appraised at over $5000 and he paid half that amount.

Mine is a .71 center, 1.04 overall. Be aware though I have very small hands and fingers. My ring is a 4, and my wrist is about 5.75"

We bought ours from Costco, and it's appraised for almost twice we paid. It's platinum, and at least VS2 or better and I or better.

Mine is an Emerald Cut diamond... center stone is .54 ct. We actually just re-did our rings for our 10th anniversary. I kept my original stone(s) (sentimental reasons), but completely changed the rings. I have tons of pictures in the first post of my pj... link to my pj is in my siggy. :)

ETA: I wear a size 4.5... you can also see in the pictures that the setting will easily change how big/small your stone looks as well. My original wedding set cost $2900 10 years ago, we just re-did them and they came in at $5200. We used my original stones (.54 ct VVS1 G colour center stone) and added another eight baguettes to the wedding band. We also went with 19kt white gold. It has the look of platinum, but it will never patina the way platinum does (something I preferred not to happen). The bonus with the 19kt white gold is that it never needs to be rhodium plated the way typical white gold does (18kt, 14kt).

My reset came in this pricey because we went with the 19kt white gold option and it was a completely custom designed ring by us (no molds for the setting). You should easily be able to get what you're after in your budget by sticking with non-custom settings.

If you're looking at white gold, a cost effective (and beautiful) alternative is Palladium (also does not patina or need re-plating) and I've also heard (and seen) beautiful work come from Blue Nile.

if someone could tell me how to post pics I would happy show you my just under a 3/4 carat ring.

Jenn

I have a princess cut 1 ct ring from Blue Nile (I would post a photo but I don't know how -- do I need more posts???) My ring appraised for double what DF paid and it really sparkles. DF really liked the customer service and diamond tutorial stuff on Blue Nile --they have a ton of choices for settings and for diamonds. He knew nothing about diamonds beforehand, did a great job from there and now considers himself an expert:thumbsup2
