This is our first time flying with our 4-year-olds...do they need a photo ID for the airport?? Where could i have one made? thanks...

No - we fly many times per year with our kids and they don't need ID if under 18 and flying within the US. One exception is a child under 2 flying for free on a parents lap - you need a BC to prove they are entitled to the free flight.

FWIW - I have also flown with my neices who have a different last name, are of a different race and never needed additional ID or paperwork for htem either.

I carry a copy of my son's birth certificate with me. I have had to show it from time to time depending on the security alert. Our school also does a security card with the school pictures. It has his name and a recent picture. They are meant to be used in the event he is missing -- horrible thought - but it also works as an ID. If your kids aren't in school or they don't do this ... then it doesn't help ... but just a thought.

For domestic travel, you will not be asked to show ID for any travelers under 18. I fly with large groups of kids each year for theater trips, 4th-12th graders. None of them have ever been asked for ID. And, in all the many times I've flown with my own child (see sig for our MANY trips to Disney by air), I've not once been asked for any ID for him.

The only exception is kids under 2 flying without a seat. You may be asked to show a birthcertificate to prove your lap child is under 2 years old. Other than that, absolutely no ID required for the kids.

This is true. We just returned from a trip to VA last week. My DS is 6. We did not have to show any type of an ID for him to fly. :wizard: pirate:
